Well, yeah... I guess I should have said 'big' flaws.

Oubre just got bad team B-ball senses.
Wood can't defend at all.

Yeah, for a team like the Lakers, he could provide some offense when AD is out. He's 27, so he's probably not going to become a plus defender at this point. But Ham is a good enough defensive coach to be able to hide him some with scheme.

If the Lakers do sign him, as long as they don't lose AD for long stretches of the season or the playoffs, he should be fine. If they do lose AD for long stretches, it won't matter who's filling in.

Heat culture….

Wood had the tools to be at least a decent help defender
They got Thomas Bryant....

We need him more and Ham will get the most out of him....plus like I said he should be motivated to have a good year for next summer when more teams have money.

Wood can fill in during the reg season for 20-25 games if AD is hurt but yeah AD has to be ready for the postseason.

Fair enough.

Show me where I said the kid will suck. Every talking head in the media has crowned this kid the next LBJ before he ever played one game. What I said from watching that summer league game is no, he is not that. Time will tell who is full of shit @Mebert
Being a generational talent does not guarantee you hit your potential, it just means thay if he does maximize his potential he will peak as the best in the league. Judging a 19 year old kid off of a bad summer league game is ridiculous, and you know it.

Whats the point of Hayes if you now want Wood to be AD backup?

Depth.

Hayes was signed for the vet minimum as will be Wood. If we get him.

Because, injuries....I shouldn't have to tell you this but it is what it is.

And you DIDN'T have to tell us, we knew... :thumb:
BKS playing stupid this AM...

At this point of FA you take the best avail player at vet minimum to add depth....

If AD played 75-80 games a season then no, but he doesn't.

We would have some insane versatility with Wood who can also play PF....we would have Hach, Vando and Wood that can play PF....that is wild.

Again, injuries happen.

As @DJ said...depth.

At this point, Wood likely is who he is and the Lakers would use him as a backup big who can score.

Hayes is 4 years younger and can hopefully be developed into something.

Plus, Wood is 6'9" while Hayes is a legit 7'. So Wood could actually backup/spot start at a couple of positions.

One of them obviously won't be playing. You don't sign a vet min to sit on the bench. You sign the vet min as a prove it contract with the expectations that next summer, you can get a much better deal.

Hayes also signed a 2 year deal. Wood would be 1 year.

I understand it from the Lakers perspective. I don't understand it from the player side.

I'm not signing a vet min if I'm Wood or Hayes if I don't feel like minutes are a lock to me.

He would get 10 starts at PF and maybe 20-25 or so at C. Plus as a backup? 18-20mpg between PF and C....

Plenty of mpg and games to prove it.

It is a 1+1 deal. Most players don't opt in to a vet min deal for year 2.

He is likely opting out for a better deal
