I can’t even assess what the Sixers have available until the Harden situation gets worked out. If he stays, the Sixers have roughly around 9 million left depending upon how much BBall Paul gets resigned for. Do you think they can get Kelly Oubre on a one year show me deal for 5-6 million?

You would want him on the Sixers?

Probably....he might settle for the vet minimum....for 1 year till next offseason when more teams have money

I don’t see how saying Shaq in his Orlando days and the early 2000s would be the best player in the game today seem absurd to you. Would you rank him top 10 at least? Lol

He doesn’t need to score in the perimeter, he’ll do just fine in the paint. If he’s triple teamed, he’ll pass it to the open guy.
You see how everybody and their mama became a shooter in today’s NBA because of Steph? Well, everyone would try to get another big man specifically just to foul Shaq. You know, exactly like it happened back in the day.

As for the pick and roll, every center in the league gets run around by guards. All of them.
You guys have one of the centers who doesn’t. There are a ton of centers today that can guard multiple positions on switches. The other whole in Shaq’s game translating to this moment in the NBA is his inability to space. It would make it difficult for players to get to the rim because they could pack the paint using Shaq’s presence on the block. I think it’s a pretty hard comp in the end. You would need a group around Shaq that’s comprised of 3-4 spot up shooters. The pairing of Shaq and Kobe for instance could be diminished because it would be harder for Kobe to get to the rim because of the defensive paint presence that Shaq will draw.

Oubre averaged 20+ ppg last year.

I know he has his flaws... but would he really accept so little?

Yep. They lack any kind of scoring punch off the bench right now as the roster is constructed.

PG Harden Pat Bev
SG Maxey Melton
SF Harris House
PF Tucker BBall Paul
C Embiid Petrusev (kid playing summer league was a Euro stash that may come over…destined for G League this year unless a lack of bodies).

Check out that second group…there’s nobody out there that’s a bucket or can get their own shot.

That’s what I’m saying. It’s a pipe dream. At the same time, it looks like most other spots are capped out and done with FA. It’s musical chairs and the music stopped and Oubre doesn’t have a chair. He’s been on a bunch of also rans. He hasn’t played on a playoff team since the 2017-18 season.

Looked at their depth chart after commenting so I now I get it.

This conversation started because you said you thought Shaq would “destroy” Embiid and be the best player in the league.

My point is that Embiid is a better player. He can move his feet defensively and is better suited to guard in today’s game where Shaq would have trouble.

He can also score in more ways than Shaq could and it is harder for defenses to focus attention on him because he can get buckets at all 3 levels.

Shaq can’t do that.

Yes, he is humongous and would still get buckets in any era. Probably still a top 10 player?

But no way would he be more impactful than guys like Giannis, Durant, Embiid or Jokic.

Shaq played in the right era.

The way the game was played in the 90’s? Advantage Shaq.

Not today.

Oubre signs with a team and plays well and he could get 2 years and 20-24 mill next summer....

Yep. He was the last in that era of great bigs that dominated the NBA. The league was still very much a league where a big could dominate before the analytics and the Warriors made everybody 3 happy.

Boston Celtics.

Jalen Brown was supposed to have signed his Max $295M - 5 year extension, this past Friday, July 1.

It's the 4th of July and Brown won't speak with the media and Brad Stevens says he's very busy cleaning up the roster and getting a team ready for the Summer League in Vegas.

Rumor in Boston is that Portland will take Brown for Lillard. BUT, Big But, Brown has to agree to sign his extension with Portland before the deal can be done.

Can or will any other team offer Portland a 24 year old All-Star, 2nd Team All-NBA player????

Stay tuned......................

Not sure why Brown would want to extend with Portland though.

Only thing I can see is that he’s been playing in the shadow of Tatum despite being (in my opinion) just as good. This would be his chance to have his own team where he is the alpha. I think it would be similar to Kyrie wanting to get out of LeBron’s shadow years ago when he went to the Celtics. At the same time, Brown might desire that situation but with a different franchise.

And he could play SF....with Scoot, Simons and Sharpe at G.

Maybe. Maybe not. It’s pretty risky. If they close on a Dame deal tomorrow maybe that changed Harden’s mind and he wants to stay in Philly. Maybe it’s Harden’s presence that has Dame saying no to Philly. Or maybe he doesn’t want to play with Embiid. Philly’s only chance is for Portland to drag this thing out and then to have Morey relent on including Maxey.

At this point, I would be fine with doing the Harden deal to the Clippers as long as they reunite Powell with Nurse and pick up two wings like RoCo and Batum.

PG Maxey Pat Bev
SG Powell Melton Springer
SF Batum RoCo House
PF Harris Tucker
C Embiid BBall Paul

Then next season they get $65 million of cap relief when Harris, Batum, RoCo, Pat Bev and Furkan Korkmaz comes off the books. That gives them roughly 30-35 million to sign 2 players and then redo Maxey after.
I do not want Marcus Morris coming back in any Clippers deal. He’s expiring money but he’s cooked. Batum and RoCo are also expiring but they can be very useful role players.

You may have to take back 1 bad player....if you get 2 other useful players?

It depends on what comes back in the Dame trade but Simons is a guy that I could see them moving in a separate deal after all this shakes out. Does anyone know Portland’s cap situation? Can they take back a bigger contract than what goes out?
