No More "Bullpen Failure"
I was really hoping to see Brock Burke in a starting role either here or in Round Rock.
Someone mentioned the other day that with the bump in his velocity up to 98mph that he could be better than Winn.
He has him over Winn
Yeah Howard is a bit of a mystery, certainly has the pitch arsenal needed for a SP although velocity slippage may be a concern and might disqualify him. The routine a pitcher requires I guess is understandable.MLB Scout's Video View: Analyzing Phillies Prospect Spencer Howard
While the game is away, Baseball America is digging into its video database and asking scouts around the game to analyze what they see from some of the sport's best prospects. Today's subject is Phillies righthander Spencer Howard.www.baseballamerica.com
5 concerns about Spencer Howard and his future with the Phillies
Do the Phillies have a potential top-of-the-rotation starter, or an oft-injured youngster who won’t put it all together?www.thegoodphight.com

Some teams have no clue it seems how to develop their younguns, kinda like the Rangers for the last 10 years or so...So he was jerked around by the Phillies and they lost faith in him. Wonder if that is the same with Crouse.
Could easily be a head case however harsh that may sound. Funny that he joins with Marteen now. Wonder if Pérez has learned a few things maybe matured a bit and can understand Howard in way others can.
for the last 10 years or so...Could be they need to change his off season training to give him more stamina. Could also be he's too revved up to start the game and throws harder earlier making it easier to catch up to him later. Would rather he start out on an even keel and be able to reach back periodically for that extra 3-4 mph when needed...

It's not harsh it's just reality he might have to learn a new mindset to become successful, take Josh for instance...
Don't forget about Chris Young I'd bet he talks with the younger pitchers on a regular basis. And you have to wonder how many of the Round Rock pitchers converse with Nolan Ryan considering he lives right up the road in Georgetown
No idea but Dombrowski is known more as a wheeler dealer than developer. Good questionDo the Phillies have a history of pitching prospects failing there and then moving on to find success elsewhere?
From Jeff Wilson:
Howard said that the Rangers will be creative with how they use him, possibly using an opener ahead of him and probably keeping him on a short leash with his innings.
i would imagine they will have a designated opener going 2 innings or 3 with Howard going 3-5 inningsSo his starts will be bullpen games. Awesome.
Question is can he go 3-5?i would imagine they will have a designated opener going 2 innings or 3 with Howard going 3-5 innings
against scrubs he probably could i don't think he will last 3 innings at this time.Question is can he go 3-5?
Should just start the season in AAA or out of the bullpen if he’s not ready to be a starter and go 5-6 innings..
