FTR, I am happy for this signing. Brebbia has a very strong track record, and I think deserves more rope. And if the Giants feel he is done during ST, they can cut him loose for next to nothing.

We are approx 30 mins away from the tender deadline. I assume the Giants will announce the Wood and Cobb signings at that time.
They could wait until tomorrow, as the CBA expires at 11:59 pm EST tomorrow. Or, I wonder if they decide to wait until the CBA is resolved and make the announcements then, so that they can hang on to the two that are going to come off the 40 man roster as long as possible.

It just makes me wonder who is coming off the 40 man roster. He seemed the most likely candidate, in my opinion.
Interesting side note, Brebbia was taken by the Cardinals in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft in 2017.

I just posted that in the Current Roster thread. Wondering why Palumbo wasn't dfa'd last week but gets non-tendered this week. Is there a 3rd free agent about to be signed?

And does this mean they offered Arb to all the eligible guys?

Brebbia, Garcia and Slater all signed deals that means they've avoided arbitration.
It seems Ruf, Leone, Yastrzemski and Casali will go to arbitration (or will sign deals later, when possible).

Per KNBR, the Giants offered Arb to Casali, Leone, Yaz and Ruf.

I still haven’t heard anything about Beede yet.

According to MLBTR, he wasn't yet eligible for arbitration. BBRef lists his first year of arbitration eligibility as 2023 (meaning arbitration will happen before that season).

If that is true, more reason to abandon Cots.

Too bad. Cots used to be a GREAT source.

With Wood officially in the fold now, I expect the Giants will probably make a play for Watson and MAYBE Bryant. Delaplane and Rodriguez might get minor league deals, but all our other FA are likely gone.

The 40 currently sits at 39, so assuming we resign Watson (big assumption), every other signing will require a DFA.

I think/hope the Giants are going to be players for Suzuki. Outside of him, I think most of the rest of the Giants roster work will come from the trade market.

There are not a lot of free agent hitters that seem like upgrades to the current crop on the 40 man roster. Bryant may be asking for more than what FZ wants to give. Suzuki, however, I expect FZ will be aggressive but he's going to have a lot of competition.

I agree that keeping Bryant is not likely. And I am OK with that.

But we still have approx 100m that we CAN spend, so I don’t see money as an obstacle in getting Suzuki. If FZ likes him, and he is open to coming to SF, I don’t see us NOT getting him. However, if he wants to play for Team X instead, there really isn’t anything we can do about that. That said, I know next to nothing about Suzuki. Maybe FZ is only lukewarm on him, so he isn’t willing to over pay for him. If that is the case, I bow to his judgement.

As much as I'm not too keen on our lack of FA signings ... . you have to trust what FZ does ... in 2021 he cobbled together a team of 'maybes' and created a team that won 107 games. You can't win 107 games on luck alone. He seems to have a GREAT gift for picking up reclamation projects and turning them around. I'm just hoping he can bring a little of that to 2022.

So far, there haven’t been many/any FAs that signed elsewhere that I feel “Dang, I wish WE had that guy at that price and years”.

I agree ... this FA thing is all about money .. As much as I like Scherzer .... NO 37 year pitcher is worth 42.M per year ... for 3 years. For that kind of money I want something like Ohtani .... 9-2 ... pitcher in 26 games ... and hit 46 homers ... and played a decent outfield ... even then ... 42.5 per year is a hell of a lot of money for ONE player

There is talent available .... but not at the price they are demanding.

Stroganoff to the Cubs. No details about the deal yet.
