They aren't bad but neither is close to elite rim protectors.
Fair. My point is the real impact of rim protection comes in the complete defensive system around it.

Damn! TMac might have been the one guy that A.I. could have played with. Would have loved to see that play out.

I mean, he was definitely a better player than Melo. And would have joined AI more in AI’s prime. So the results might have looked good.

But AI wasn’t the type of player who fits well with anybody else. Kind of like Russ in that regard.

It is all about who can fit best with AI.

And the answer is not TMac. Both volume scorers who need the ball.

‘99 and a legit player that could score like TMac could, would have been proof positive when AI was still somewhat reachable that he didn’t have to score all the time. The problem was there was no other option to score so when AI would say No There Isn’t, he would be right.

See though…

That is why I think the 6ers were as successful as they were. The players they had fit AI perfectly.

They were scrappy defenders who not only didn’t need the ball, they didn’t really want it. They were content to let AI be AI and pick up the scraps.

And that led to one nice season. Hindsight is 20/20 but Larry Brown took the easier path. It’s his job to get AI to understand the value of team ball. He gave up.

Larry Brown pretty much gave up everywhere he went. That is his MO.

AI is the closest comp to Westbrook in today’s game. Their skill sets aren’t identical, but their impact on the game is the same, IMO.

Truly great individual player who does not play well with others.

You add a superstar to a roster and of course the team is going to be better. I was just pushing back on the idea that TMac and AI would have been a decent fit.

A Philly trade might prohibit TMac from reaching superstar status.

I hear that. That’s why Murray may help create the better pair. He helps mitigate a hole in Trae’s game. Meanwhile, you can argue that Mitchell/Garland present 2 Waldo’s that can be sought in half court playoff matchup hunting. Trae is just one Waldo. Murray isn’t that guy.
Garland and Mitchell have the twin towers though. Levert is playing top level defense so he adds another layer. Mitchell might not be a great defender but the effort is there so far and he is uber-athletic. Garland isn't a very good on-ball defender and his ceiling is probably becoming an average defender like Steph is now.

The problem for the Hawks is Trae is so bad and their team defense is not very strong which seems to be like the bigger issue, we will see. What makes a great or good defense is working together even if you don't have great defenders at all positions. Offensively they are extremely dangerous.

People, it’s quite obvious.

Bronny is going to develop via the college route.

Sources close to home say that he will be attending the University of Michigan. It’s far from LA but develop is key word.
