I will give you this one.

Out of the 11 games he played, they only lost 4.

So, he was definitely helping.

On the flip side, his absence helped Garland improve.
I'm not so sure about that. Helped his numbers? sure. With our top scorer out, Garland needed to score more and with no Sexton (and Rubio) he handled the ball more. But Garland made an incredible leap from year 1 to year 2 WITH Sexton. It also meant he was wearing down end of year as he had to do too much. Of course, with DM, he wont have to do as much.

agree with the last part but is $18 mil per really such an overpay? Hell, Brunson and Simons just got $25-26 mil per.
Is that what Sexton got?

Ewwwww, no.

I'd rather have him at 18 over Mitchell at 30...

Especially with the other stuff you gave up.

........IF....Sexton could stay in his lane.

It's Garland and Mobley's team now.

Someone just needs to explain that to Mitchell.

He's not your best player.

For now, that's Garland.

By Season's end it might be Mobley.

Mitchell does give you something every team needs.

Do you remember the duel he had with Murray in the playoffs?

Both those guys went nuts.

You are going to the playoffs.

If the score gets tight, he can get you a bucket and he is unafraid.
agree....though to be fair, in his last full season there were not many better than Sexton when you needed a bucket late. He just never got the chance to do it for a good team (well, other than those 11 games).

Excited to see how this works out and wish the kid well.

Nets story isn't finished yet so pointless to discuss. They can very well win it all this season
Yea they could, and they could end up with 3 guys in adjoining rooms on the psych ward. Probably something in between a title and that.

He had too do to much because all your other pig's kept getting injured.

Didn't Rondo miss time too?

As you know, I have always been higher on Garland.

Sexton turned out to be better than I gave him credit for.

Mitchell is better.

But, goddamn.... Not 12 mil a year better.

I was unaware of Sexton's extension number.

That really changes the optics.

My only question is: Would he have settled for that number in Cleveland?

If so.....ouch...lol

Okay.....

I see where the disconnect comes from on our difference of opinion.

You guys are looking at the X's and O's only.

Am I the only one who remembers this shit?

I'm sorry.

But, its not a coincidence that they started playing good team ball when he was out.

Obviously, Mobley made the biggest difference.

But, Garland being the guy was a huge factor too.

Various Cavs players still grow frustrated by the way Sexton dominates the ball, and opponents taunt them by saying during games, “you know he’s not going to pass you the ball.”

The Cavs were 7-4 before Sexton went out against easily the toughest schedule in the league (only 3 home games). They were playing "good, team ball" before he went down and his game had adjusted with better teammates. He was taking 5 fewer shots and usage was down.

Hadn't heard a bad comment about him in a couple seasons. I mean, the kid shoots a lot less than Mitchell and passes more......and Mitchell had much better teammates (at least up until last season).

Just saw an article suggesting that Danny still covets the Lakers 2 first rounders. It suggested Westbrook and the 2 picks for Conley and Bog or Westbrook, Wenyen Gabriel and the picks for Bog, Clarkson, Alexander-Walker and Rudy Gay.

I'm pretty sure he'd have taken that number to stay. as I said this deal is not a no-brainer but it could definitely work out nd be exciting.

Kind of reminds me of the OBJ deal. said the same then. Exciting, but not a no-brainer. Hopefully, not just a deal for a better name.

Dude, just ignore everything I've said about Sexton before you told me what he signed for.

I thought he got a max.

If I'm paying max money, obviously I'd want Mitchell.

But, at that price point?

Sexton all day.

That guy that's getting blamed for everything going wrong in Lakerland is the extreme example of how you value a guy based on his salary.

Like, Westbrook is a trash ass player at 47 mil per.

Westbrook at the vet min is tolerable.

Heck, even at 10-12 mill per RW would be tolerable.....but not 47 mill.

when you are a smaller market team like the Cavs- you have to shoot your shot.

They obviously did not want Sexton back at a large contract.

I wrote a few days ago how they needed a deal like this to consolidate the roster.

the best thing about this deal- is that usually when teams make deals like this- they have vets and are trying to win-now and just keep a window open a little longer

How many teams make a deal like this and can say 100% WITHOUT A DOUBT- that NEXT year they will even be better than this year?
