Different NBA now than it was at that time. This is the new norm.

If you are a star/superstar before the end of your rookie contract, you will get a huge contract approaching 200 M

Not players that stayed in college. Butler was 30, I believe, when his second contract ended but it’s really just math. The younger you come into the league, the younger you finish your extension. Not crazy

Opposing defenses had to make tough decisions on which player to guard, and had to be especially worried about Rubio in the pick-and-roll.

“With Ricky at the helm of that second unit, it was almost like we had two different lineups,” president of basketball operations Koby Altman said during his end-of-season news conference in April. “We’d have your defensive lineup that would slow things down and beat you up on the glass and get you taking tough shots. In a normal setting, the Celtics taking on salary could be a help but the Nets situation isn’t normal. Instincts say, start a rebuild but that would involve tanking for most teams. That can’t happen for the Nets because they’d be tanking for the Rockets. I think they’re going to look to fill spots and get player value already realized out of what KD brings back in addition to a slew of picks and swaps they can use for assets in trades, not for long term investment in a player.
