They’re never going to give him MVP. It is what it is. Embiid shouldn’t have said it out loud but he’s not wrong. The media doesn’t like him. They hold it against him that he trolled and talked shit before he made it. The most important voices in NBA media, Lowe, Bill Simmons, etc… are married to analytics like they’re fugaze Billy Beane. He’s never winning MVP. Your games played comment is way off. He missed 4 non/Covid absence games this season. He went and fixed what they said the year before for why they didn’t give it to him. This very same media put him on 2nd team NBA two years in a row. Embiid needs to say fuck them and do what his team needs which is a healthy Embiid in the playoffs. That means more load management. He really isn’t sacrificing MVP anyway. He’s been MVP the last two years and they have refused to acknowledge it. It is what it is.

Just wait until next season when Tatum wins MVP over Embiid by the smallest margin ever.

Would totally be on brand. The Ringer staff has 4 MVP votes and in order to work for the Ringer you have to do what Bill Simmons says and you need to adopt all of his talking points.

Maxey isn’t Garland though. He was a 3rd option, Garland is a #1 that was the offense to CLE at times

All we have are 2nd years to compare. Both guys around 17.5 points PPG but Maxey needed fewer shots to do it. Maxey could do what Garland does for Cleveland and he showed that by averaging 25.5 when Embiid was out with Covid. It isn’t that Maxey can’t be that dude. He’s lucky enough to be on a roster where he has Joel Embiid.

Agree. You sign the guy no questions asked and that’s what the market says. I just don’t know that he’s worth more than say Joel Embiid making 33 million.

I’m hoping that he is that same player but he doesn’t catch an All Star game or other accolade that would trigger this provision so that he can be paid a more manageable 25-30 a year.
