At least it's not a 3-year 39M/42M contract, but I'm still disappointed in this signing just not as much as I anticipated.

Lions sitting on approximately 21M in cap space, but they have yet to account for release of Trey Flowers - should be 10.4M or more if they use post-June 1st.

31.6M cap space to work with before you include below

Also, the signings of Alez Anzalone and TW lll have yet to be included.
Shaun Dion Hamilton and Jalen Elliot's contracts would pretty much be irrelevant at this time as they'd fall below the Top 51.
Still should have 20+Mil

I was not gungho for a WR in FA, but a 1 year prove it deal is something I think is not a bad idea. He adds something we lack at WR, and if her gets hurt again we walk away with no penalty.

It was a good price for him considering what some of these other non performers are signing for.

Sure, they do.

That alleged 31M doesn't include TW lll, Anzalone, Chark, 9.4M for draft class, 2.5M Practice squad, 8M IR replacements + 2 more roster spots to get to 53-man and not just Top 51

So if the 2 million potential for Chark are likely to be achieved bonuses than the Lions are sitting with 7 million in cap space accounting for draft pick and every signing so far. My guess is Harris will cost more than that, unless they do another Walker funny money type of deal.

Yet Chark played only 4 games last year but the other side of that is Robinson missed 5 games and was hobbled 3 other games.

Still

I think Lions end up restructuring Decker and Okwara to add another 16 million. I don't love the idea of restructuring, but if they are looking to add Harris and any other starter they are going to need that money.

I just hope they don't restructure Goff, it would add 16 million, but we have an almost free out starting next year if they just leave it alone.

Well, the following happened in 2021, so maybe the Lion's get lucky in one aspect and unlucky in another

Starting with the base cap established by the league and adding the team-specific rollover, as well as adding in team-specific adjustments (alterations made based on 2021 contracts where terms were not met, i.e. bonuses not achieved or game checks not earned), + $8,401,096 (adjustments) This amount was added to this year cap due to players injured and not eligible for bonuses, etc.

I'm sure Schlitt was extraordinarily careful as to whom he placed in his Top 51. All of those lower end 825k to 985k salary players and choosing whom he believes makes the final 53-man roster.

The fact remains that during the last 3-years running the Lions have used, at a minimum, 8M for IR replacement players.

I question Harris' ability to fit in the new 4-3 base concepts unless he's going to be used as a Wide-9. A 3-4 Base is where he'll capitalize as a pass rusher. He failed miserably in Miami's then 4-3 Base after being drafted and yet again while playing for Atlanta's 4-3 Base.

I believe they let him walk.

The Lions will still use some 3-4 Base alignments, but I doubt anywhere near like last year. There's a big difference in the type of player's physical stature when used as an edge rusher for a 3-4 Base and then a 4-3 Base.

You think the Lions just roll with what they have or can draft then? I don't see a lot of great options for 4-3 end. Barnett, Key, or Fowler are not great options.

Hell Mebert, I could be completely wrong thinking Harris isn't a fit, but we're going to find out soon enough. Whether Harris is re-signed or not, I'd expect Holmes to draft at least one 4-3 Edge Rusher in the upcoming draft.

Think body type of edge rusher Aaron Glen had in New Orleans
Cameron Jordan Height: 6'4" Weight: 287
Trey Hendrickson Height: 6'4" Weight: 266
Marcus Davenport Height: 6'6" Weight: 264

They may very well go in a different direction, but one area I feel certain of is that they'll acquire that Big Base End similar to Jordan.

Harris's style is winning at 7-tech or 9-tech. The new base ends will require playing 6, 7 and 9-tech mostly with some sprinkles of an occasional 5 and 4i tech

@Mebert Austin Bryant fits that mold of 4-3 Base End, but I doubt he lasts beyond this year. Like I stated earlier, think Jason Jones type physical build and Ziggy Ansah as both were roughly 6'5" and 265 with long arms.

No, I don't see Holmes specifically targeting a 4-3 Base Edge Rusher in Free Agency, but as usual, I'm 100% wrong, 99% of the time.

Based on those parameters, Rasheem Green might be worth a gamble.

6'4" 280 6.5 sacks last year.

They could easily make Trey Flowers release as a post-June 1st cut which I believe would give them another 4M or so to use this year outside of his already 10.4M cap savings
