Based on those parameters, Rasheem Green might be worth a gamble.

6'4" 280 6.5 sacks last year.

Whichever player is being used as the 6-tech will have to convert power to speed in order to get those one-on-one wins. This is an area where Thibodeaux struggled at times as well as Hutch.

They could easily switch up this year. Look at how the Rams used Leonard Floyd and then brought in Von Miller. Floyd is 6'6" and roughly 250, but there's a difference between his pass rushing skills and Charles Harris'. Von Miller is about 6'3" and 250, I think.

I remember when he came out of USC and was itching for the possibility he would be drafted.
Even if he does not take the next step as a pass rusher it seems like he would fill a need. I can't find any news on how his FA is going though.

In this year's draft players like Logan Hall, Travon Walker would fit the normal type of Base End

Takk McKinley could be another option

I would anticipate moving to a more authentic 4-3 Base where Brockers will play some of that 5 and 4l tech when using a 3-4 Base here and there, but I also would expect him to play more 3-tech this year.

I doubt we see too many alignments having players like Brockers, Onwuzurike, Nick Williams lining up with one at 5-tech and one at 4l. I would think they realized their players are better at one-gapping which is better suited for Onwuzurike.

Expect them to draft another quick penetrating 3-tech somewhere in the draft. Hall and Walker both can slide inside and play the 3-tech as well as a Base End.

Flowers was that Base End who had the quickness to slide inside and play 0-tech to 3-tech on passing downs in a limited number of snaps per game

We already know everywhere he's ended up and that he lacks skill set to win his one-on-ones. He's been a bust at Atlanta, Oakland and wherever he last played. JMO.

He's probably better suited for the SAM in a 4-3 Base to which I think Julian Okwara may play more of this year on early downs. J. Okwara surprisingly was the most consistent edge rusher the Lions had last year and that includes his run defense. He made astounding leaps in coverage as well even though he had plenty of uh-oh plays. Julian is a better fit playing the weakside side 7-tech and occasional 9-tech. Romeo, for whatever reason, played his best on the strongside 6 and 7- tech

Hutch showed problems last year when playing tight alignments as a 6-tech when it was clearly a short yardage run down or even early down run play. Maybe those 32 1/2" arms have something to do with it. IDK. He allows OT's to come into his chest pretty easily if he doesn't get his arms extended with a violent hand punch.

I question Harris' ability to fit in the new 4-3 base concepts unless he's going to be used as a Wide-9. A 3-4 Base is where he'll capitalize as a pass rusher. He failed miserably in Miami's then 4-3 Base after being drafted and yet again while playing for Atlanta's 4-3 Base.

I believe they let him walk.

The Lions will still use some 3-4 Base alignments, but I doubt anywhere near like last year. There's a big difference in the type of player's physical stature when used as an edge rusher for a 3-4 Base and then a 4-3 Base.
That is the million dollar question. Will it be 50-50 or will it be skewed more. We have other players that fit the 4-3 end better. I expect a big leap this year from Austin Bryant.

Have you also been @broncosmitty this weekend with Holmes and Dan Campbell when contemplating bring back Anzaolne and now this?

I expect Austin Bryant to get cut come time for the final 53-man roster to be decided.

Julian Okwara could play that 4-3 Base Leo position like Avril and Aldon Smith did at Seattle. That's pretty much what Leonard Floyd plays for the Rams. Harris doesn't have the get-off, imo, to play that position.

Romeo is better off in a 3-point stance, Base End, edge rusher off the left side of the defense. Julian thrives in a 2-point stance.

I cant see that happening. Flowers gone and not signing Harris leaves us way short. Dont even know if Romeo will ever play again and if so be close to what he was. J Okwara is too small to play at the LOS at the NFL level IMO.

but, but, but, but, Kevin Strong is out there as an UFA. LOL.
OOOPs, forgot Rashod Berry, Jessie Lemonier

2nd and 3rd tier UFA's hasn't happened yet.
I think they'll sign a Vet 4-3 Power Base-Edge Rusher and if the chips fall properly they just might draft two Edge Rusher's- 2nd possible edge draftee might be 2nd day and if value is there at pick. who knows?
