Lots here. Going to make 2 separate posts about the 2 big pieces.

That is just it…

That last call on LeBron is not easy to make. Not even close.

It happened quickly. There were 7 players, 4 Celtics and 2 Laker teammates within a step and half of LeBron.

Notice that the 2 angles used to show the foul in slow motion are NOT the angle that the baseline ref had who was closest to the play.

And in that moment, under the current review the psychology is that you got to be 1000% percent sure to blow that whistle in that spot.

Especially in the road, even though that part shouldn’t matter. But it absolutely plays into the psychology of the play.
He was under the basket, 5 feet away.

So, disagree.

Somehow, this debate has morphed into something else, and that’s probably my fault.

I have no problem with your interpretation with any of these calls.

My ire is mostly directed at you suggesting I can’t voice my opinion because I have never done the job.

I have never been Native American.

But, I’m pretty sure they can’t be pleased every time Columbus Day rolls around.

Its called empathy.

That’s what I feel for the players when they are cheated outta a hard earned win.

I get it.

And honestly? Since that conversation with you?

I have tried to stay out of those conversations about police. And I was absolutely reading your takes on Memphis because you have perspective I lack.

2 more examples of extremely difficult jobs, teaching and policing. These are jobs where it isn’t possible to get every call right.

Unfortunately with policing the stakes are life and death.

And I am of the opinion that wanting to make something better is always a good thing.

So let’s focus the talk about making it better instead of putting down the people trying to do an impossible job.

And FYI I don’t put you in that category of the constant gripers.
Yeah, totally.

Policing and Teaching aren’t even in the same hemisphere as being a ref.

Well, unless it’s soccer in a foreign country because that shit is life or death.

Again, I tagged you in this convo.

That is on me and I will stop.

But, like @bksballer89 said…

We are on here real time.

You get here under the calm of a new day with perspective we lack in the moment.

I hear you.

I just don’t see any empathy for the refs from many here.

And I am sorry, but talk to anyone who was reffed and they will tell you that same as me.

No such thing as an easy call with 4 seconds on the clock in a tie game. Whatever decision you make changes the outcome. Damn well better be right.

So the easy answer is review every play in the last minute to get it right, but even that has consequences that will affect outcomes.

I honestly don’t know WHAT the easy answer is.

…..and, in fairness…

I can see how it would grate hearing people bitch all the time without offering a viable solution.

All I have is keep your challenge if it’s successful, maybe automatic trigger for reviews last minute?

I hate game stoppages and would die a slow death if teams were allowed to challenge every play under the Sun because it could be used as a tool of deception to stop a run, to set up a play with no timeouts.

Remember when a injured player used to stop the clock in the NFL?

But, now they take a timeout or run the clock at the end of games.

I think part of the issue may have been where/when the foul happened. It's not like Lebron was fouled on the drive to the hoop, or as he was going up. The foul happened on the inside of his arm, closer to his elbow.

If the ref is focused on the ball, I could see him missing that foul. Watching it real time, the only clue I saw that there may have been a foul was that he missed the shot. But even then, it's not like we haven't seen players miss layups, even Lebron.

Not saying that it excuses missing the call, just suggesting that some of these "obvious calls" aren't always as obvious as we like to think.

And believe me, I really wanted to go full ref blaming meltdown on that one too...but mostly because it was against those evil, soulless bastards from Boston. lol

You know it is funny…

Policing I would rank at the top because of the stakes involved.

Teaching? I make mistakes all the time in my job in dealing with students. Hundreds of decisions made every day that can impact someone either positively or negatively. Impossible to bat 1000%, but I do the best I can.

I would honestly say reffing a pro sport is way harder than my job. I don’t have thousands of people letting me know every time I get something wrong.

No, I go teaching 1st.

Cops have guns, taser, spray, batons.

You have a kind heart, desire to shape the next generation that is mainly hyper focused on guns, video games and social media.

You are showing up to a war on our future armed with plastic spoons while 6 year olds have semi automatic pistols.

Not you.

You don’t do that.

Im talking about @tlance .

He has said multiple times that we should stop complaining until we walk a mile in a refs shoes.

That is pure HUBRIS.

If I came on here and said the guys who murdered Ahmad Arbery were justified, you would tell me to go fuck myself because you have eyes and a working brain.

My having done the job would not override your common sense nor ethics.

Have I done that?

Comment all you want.

Saying they are bad at their jobs is different.

LOL.

You have a point.

Consequences of officiating not on par with the other 2, but public scrutiny off the charts.

Yeah, I get that.

Like I told @tlance

The discussion got hijacked when I moved the goalposts.

It stopped being about right or wrong plays and calls when I devolved it into a pissing contest on the right to complain.

Do you think every ref is good in all sports? I think mlb umps are as bad as they come especially angel hernandez and joe west

Yeah, these trolls on the internet will dox you and put all your horsepower on the internet.

Name, address, kids school…etc

It is dangerous to be a ref.

Clippers injury report is out and @Mecca is correct

No Kawhi or PG

Going with the normal injury management for Kawhi while PG is out due to a "knee" problem supposedly
Not happy to be correct.

But, I get it.

This hamstring issue has been a thing with Bball Paul.

We can’t lose PG because we can’t count on not losing Kawhi.

Some fucked up shit.

Do I think every ref is good?

Depends.

Are we comparing to the best in the field of pro refs?

Or to average Joe on his couch?

The variance in pro refs is about the same as pro athletes. For every Giannis you have 10 scrubs hanging to their roster spot.

But yeah, those scrubs are a lot better than average Joe.

Nah.

In high school I was doing keg stands.

Now?

Hell yeah I’m that guy!
Co-sign. I miss my days of making bad decisions. Was at a swim meet for my nephew yesterday and ran into a “bad decision”. Watching her scream at her kids in public reminded me I side stepped misery haha.
