Referee has straight forward response to LeBron James no-call in Celtics-Lakers

The no-call was controversial enough to warrant a pool report after the game, and crew chief Eric Lewis admitted the officials got it wrong.

Adam Himmelsbach (boston globe). "It looked like there was contact on LeBron's drive at the end of regulation. Why was there no foul call there and what did you see there?"

Eric Lewis. "There was contact. At the time, during the game, we did not see a foul. The crew missed that play."

It's rare for referees to openly admit mistakes, but this was a pretty obvious foul on Tatum.

Well it's now past time for the dam refs to be publicly held accountable for their way too often in-game mistakes.

Because it'll be a shame when a refs missed call costs a team a playoff win or a game in the Finals.

My solution to the ref/foul problem:

Coaches get 1 challenge in first half and 2 in second.
They never lose their 3rd challenge if it is upheld.

No here's the good part.


On blown whistles involving a foul, the ref waits a silent count of 3 before indicating who the foul is against.

If the offending player raises his hand in those 3 seconds, and they're not in the penaty, its side out.
It the offending player raises his hand, and they're in the penaty, the foulee get a 1+1.

If the offending player does not raise his hand, and not in penalty, foulee gets 1 shot and the ball.
If the offending player does not raise his hand, and in penalty, foulee gets 1+1 and the ball.

Ref is still the authority on who was the offending player.

Disclaimer:
I have played and ref'd basketball, both very badly.
I just want to see some of these players have to raise their hand and admit a foul.
