Oh, they actually are haggling.

Even still, the Lakers have remained reluctant to offer both their 2027 and 2029 first-round picks in any deal — a price rival teams have consistently required to take on Westbrook’s contract — let alone sacrifice both selections without protections.

Protections means a team risks not getting them because they can’t move down the line beyond 2029

And the Stepien rule…exists

So protections are non starters.

End of the day, they're going to try to negotiate.

First rule of negotiation: Don't lead with your best offer.

Second rule of negotiation: If you don't ask, the answer is always no.

To act like the Lakers shouldn't ask for protections, or that they should just open with their best offer...Well, lets' just say...I
don't really gamble...but I want to play poker with folks who think that way. lo
Yep, they can always.......

So what happens when Irving is dealt and the team doesn’t want to talk about an extension right now?

I'm guessing that whoever gets him will either have to do a sign and trade or agree to negotiate a new deal once the trade is complete.

Bruh, you been to Philippe's yet?

Clock is ticking.
I told my wife about it again today. We went to Universal but ate there. We need to go

Yeah, no doubt.

I said the same, what’s it hurt to ask?

But, to expect to get value in a Westbrook deal and not give up both picks is kinda the reason your record is what it is right now.

Had they not been a victim of their own hubris, you would have Turner and Buddy and be at, or near, top of the West….even with Davis out.

Yes, yes you do.

And don't mind the wait.....unless it has changed since (and I doubt it) I was last there......it's worth the wait.

Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious.

Offering him a full max is a horrible decision. You have to find a team with a lot of cap who is also run by unqualified people.

I don’t disagree.

However, there are definitely owners who would pay it.

And for some, who are a player of his ability away from contention, it might be worth the risk.

to Rozier.
These are all unofficial reports.

But, just saying they put a championship clause in the deal and not expanding on what that was is misleading by Kyrie’s camp.

Yes, the clause was there.

But, allegedly….it was to fully guarantee the LAST YEAR of the deal, not the whole contract.

It’s unorthodox as fuck.

But, not like they tried do do some malicious shit or low ball him.

NO TEAM is giving him a guaranteed 4 years.

Just saying.

They probably did say that. And he replied no, make me an offer now.

Then they say no too.

Simple.

Better than making him a half assed offer.

And you are totally speculating.

Eric Gordon has that clause right now in his deal iirc

So he wouldn’t even be the first

That’s nice.

What’s your conference and head to head record with them and the teams ahead of you?

Not only do you have to catch teams in the standings….

You have to overcome head to head in some cases.

Even if they tie with you, you still lose.

* see Clippers 3-0 head to head.

4 years most likely. Yeah the Nets went after Kyrie but then put all these weird clauses…ai get it but you also have to deal with his fragile personality. They asked for all this

Exactly!

That’s the thing, maybe it wasn’t a half assed offer. He may not like it, but if that is how things have to be for him to stay there then so be it.
