He‘s had the talent though.

In Boston he’s had 4 HOF players and only got one title

In LA he’s had a prime CP3, a prime Blake Griffin, Kawhi and Paul George and never got out of the 2nd round in the playoffs.

That to me screams mediocrity at best.

Give those teams to guys like Phil Jackson, Pop, Pat Riley, Lenny Wilkins or even probably guys like Larry Brown and Rudy T and you’ll probably get 2 or 3 championships out of those rosters at least.

He had 4 HOF players but they were not all prime.

Rondo was a baby when that team formed. KG, Pierce and Allen were all getting older and past prime after their 2nd year together. Rondo started to enter his prime as the vets began to fade a little.

Winning 1 title with that crew is exactly what a good coach should be expected to do given the roster and the competition.

Wilkens is generally known as one of the best coaches in history. He never even got close to coaching stacked teams like Doc had and still won a title with an average Sonics team.

Also, Riley won 5 rings in 10 years with the Lakers in the 80s - I think that’s pretty damn good especially as he faced a team with FIVE HOF players multiple times.
I like Lenny, but he did have some really good Cavs teams that could not get past MJ. No shame in that, of course, but many of Docs' best teams had Lebron to deal with.

Riley also had his share of HOFers. Not saying he's not an exceptional coach. He is.

I think he should have done more with Blake and CP3. I think they should have gone deeper in the 2014 and 2015 seasons but I'm not sure they ever were winning a title. And if comes down to expecting a team to go from the 2nd round to a 3rd round exit that is pretty nitpicky.

That Clippers team last year was not well constructed, though. And Paul George seems to shrink in the big moments.

Riley had 2 of arguably the top 10 players of all time on his team. The 84-85 team had 5 Hall of Famers as well.

So now Doc has had stacked teams? You are still the queen of hyperbole here.

KG, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Rondo

CP3, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan

Kawhi, Paul George, best bench in the league

ONE championship.

Yes, he has had stacked teams and achieved next to nothing.

I get you have to stick up for your coach but your homerism is laughable. For the players Doc has had, he is far below average.

Not kidding at all.

I'm just making the argument that Doc isn't an "above average coach"
You really think Doc's Cs were far better than the Lebron, Wade, Bosh led Heat?

Kind of funny if not kidding.

I mean, he's not the coach of my team. I don't think he's anything special. But you are still FOS in your comments.

Deandre Jordan is part of a stacked team? Best bench and 2 stars (one known to fold in playoffs)?

The CP3 teams were NEVER a title favorite. He won a title with the Celtics despite their stars clearly being on the downside of their careers.

Last year's team should have done better and it was one of the reasons I wasn't keen on the Sixers hiring him. But let's not pretend that last year was a normal year.

And ftr, yes...Doc has had stacked teams. There may have been a team or 2 that was more stacked, but that doesn't mean his weren't.
