Ok, I don’t think anyone is putting Doc on their Mount Rushmore of coaching.

There are certainly times were blowing a series lead falls on the coach failing to adjust.

But these times?

I don’t remember too many specifics from the 1st time, but I can tell you definitively that it is not the coaches’ fault when star players are hitting the side of backboard on open corner 3s.

Yes they underachieved. Sometimes when teams underachieve the coach is most responsible for it.

But not the 2020 Clippers, IMO. The players choked.

I'm not saying Doc is the worst coach the league has ever seen. I'm just calling out those who labelled him a "very good" coach when the numbers say otherwise.

But losses always start at the top.

The 2020 Clippers had THREE chances to meet the Lakers in the WCF and blew double digit leads in every one of them. That's not just the players fault.

In this particular case?

Yeah, I think it was.

What should Doc have done differently? His stars played like hot garbage down the stretch of those games.

don't get the idea many fans have of never blaming players when they fail if they don't like the coach.

He could have drawn up the old 'Picket Fence' during a sideline timeout.

Then followed it with a rousing speech about a young man named the Gipper.

What a stupid question! :D
I was thinking how about just draw up plays with made baskets instead of misses?

and if ya run the picket fence make sure the players don't get caught watching the paint dry.

Which is when you switch lineups, sub players, call time-outs.

If Doc wasn't to be blamed they wouldn't have fired him
I saw most of the games....he did not play the same 5 the entire game and did use his TOs.

Who sub out their star players of a crucial playoffs games? And he did call timeouts

The most I'll say Doc could have done difference in the 2020 WCF is call set plays that can get an easy basket or 2 when his team went cold

NBA teams only get 6 or 7 timeouts in a game and basically every team try to have 2 timeouts left for the final 2 minutes. There's only so many timeouts you can call

When your players are 0-10 in the 4th quarter after blowing a double digit lead, maybe it's time to make some changes.

Removing your superstar and star isn't the change any team would make. Your suggestion of moving PG and/or Kawhi just isn't very realistic

I'm no NBA head coach but blowing a double digit lead in the 2nd half in three consecutive close-out games isn't "just on the players"

Like I said earlier, if it was Doc wouldn't have been fired.

G5- Kawhi 36 on 50% shooting and PG 26 on 44% shooting
G6- Kawhi 25 on 44% shooting and PG 33 on 43% shooting

These are the players doc should have removed? They were by far the clippers best 2 players in G5 & G6

Is anything the coaches fault anymore when guys can risk seed positions because of birthday parties and keep their jobs?

I think it is fair to play the coach if you can point to a couple specific things that he should have done differently.

Sometimes a coach does their job very well and the team still loses. Sometimes they do their job poorly and the team wins.

A good coach will generally take blame publicly because that is what good leaders do. But that doesn’t mean it really was their fault.

I get that but there's only so much he could have done. The only thing I would suggest is try to get his team a few easy baskets to stop the nuggets run. It is a make or miss league and clippers missed a lot and the nuggets made a lot in the 2nd half of those games.

Outside of game 7, I blame the clippers role players specifically Lou and Trez. These were 2 of the best 3 best bench players in the league.

They had a total of 10 in game 5 and 19 in game 6.

Those 2 avg a total of 36 PPG in the regular season....that is a huge dropoff
