They got listed as Titles in multiple Sports Almanacs, and on dozens of Wikipedia pages among other web sources. They aren't even official titles. That's like saying OSU won the Sagarin title in 98

My 1902 Gopher bb team did FOUR things your 1939 Webfoot bb team did not do.Lol - you claim Illegitimate yet bragging about a shirt vs skins championship in 1902

Most cfb titles weren't played for either, and until what, 1936, there were no standardized polls, either. But guess what...They weren't handed out or played for in the year the games were played. There were no polls or anything. This is all retroactive stuff.

the same team that dominated college football in 1934 and 1935, amazingly continued to dominate cfb in 1936 and 1940 and 1941 as well, needing the frigging bombing of Pearl Harbor and an entire World War that followed to derail their dominating of cfb.
The starting up of a standardized or widely recognized poll did not magically transform cfb into a legitimate college sport, just like introducing the BCS or now the CFP hasn't magically transformed the sport, either.
Oregon was no diamond in the rough just waiting for the NCAA to appear and magically reveal them as the first REAL and legitimate bb team EVER to exist in cbb history. In fact the NIT tourney was recognized by MOST cbb fans at the time, cept Webfoot fans I'm sure, lol, as the REAL and more legit tournament, and LIU, UNDEFEATED LIU, as the REAL, legit Natl Champ. And where did Oregon go after 1939? Why did their Natl Title not vault them into a long history of cbb dominance? Oregon needed Nike to come along and assist them in becoming a school to sometimes pay attention to. The NCAA at the time had just started up, and wasn't recognized nationally for several more years.
I love that there's still a 2015 March Madness banner for the subforum.
Rules change all the fukking time dude, doesn't change the fact that the team's that won titles in year X or year Y didn't all play by the same basic rules and were recognized nationally as the best in the nation. Stop being a loser.the rules the game was played by in 1902 were absurd man. Bragging about a retroactive title from then is pretty sad.
Where do you think UCLA looked to for a coach? Same place Minnesota looked, to a Big Ten alum, a former National Player of the Year and a member of a Natl Title winning team. Who declared the team Natl Champs and who declared the player as NPOY? The Helms AF, lol. So Minnesota thought they had John Wooden coming to coach for them, but there was one last phone call that needed to take place. A snowstorm in Minnesota prevented them from getting the call through to Wooden, so John thinking Minnesota chose not to hire him, called UCLA and accepted their offer. How would a school out on the West Coast know about some Purdue alum who played cbb when they were just intramural games? Why would anyone have even known who he was since he played cbb before 1939 when the sport magically transformed into a legit sport?the rules the game was played by in 1902 were absurd man. Bragging about a retroactive title from then is pretty sad.
fred's homerism rivals that of maizeNblue09's.

And Yale and Wisconsin(another early cbb power), Iowa and Nebraska as well. They beat 4 HS teams and the teachers along with one school that doesn't exist 3 times and a school that is now d 3 on the way to their retroactive title. Impressive stuff.
