should be at AA..by end of year....knocking...on the door.....
and maybe why..they dont want to be hasty....dealing with catchers

make an awesome team..with cal.....i would think...
Unfortunately it looks like we're going to roll with Raleigh and Murphy at catcher.

Another issue is how do you platoon Raleigh and Murphy? Baseball-Reference doesn't seem to have minor league splits for Raleigh, but both he and Murphy hit lefties better than righties in 2021 and historically Murphy has been much better against righties than lefties.

Either way we will have to hope improved offensive output from both of them in 2021 or we may go into the trade deadline in the market for a ctacher.

The Narvaez deal that no one, I think even Jerry could justify at the time or now. I am not saying Raleigh can’t eventually become a full time starter, I just don’t personally think he is there yet, so I put it in the box of essential needs for next year. But you also can’t forget they needed an everyday all star caliber OF and Jerry dealt him for Marco.

I don’t want Haniger gone and truly don’t think Jerry does either. But it is an issue because it clogs a hole. IMO it is Lewis or Haniger that needs to be dealt and has to dealt if they sign a Conforto. I really think Lewis getting injured yet again threw a big fat monkey wrench in his plans. He was going to have Lewis, Haniger and then was going to dangle Kelenic or JRod for an ace…but they just got him. JRod is the best prospect the Mariners have ever had (including ARod) so he will be given a chance, and depending on the CBA the Mariners might have to force him into the starting lineup.

DH is a vital position for them to have as a utility type position because as of now Lewis, Haniger and Toro will be splitting time there and if Bryant or Story signs then they will take turns when Toro plays the field. Which is kind of point that as much as I love Cruz, it takes making about 4 trades plus signing him.

I am no fan of Jerry but would truly hate to be him right now. There are glaring weaknesses and allegedly Semien was the number 1 target and they got massively outbid. There is literally no reason to sign with the Rangers when they won’t make the playoffs for the entire time of Semien and Seager playing together.

The Ray deal and getting Seager back cheaper and they trump the Rangers IMO. I am still all in on the A’s deal though and that is my pipe dream. Ray, the A’s deal, JRod coming up and making minor deals for a starting catcher who play 3/5 of the games and this off-season is as good as it could be. Locking down a 3B and 2B was the goal but the Ray deal and the deals I propose really makes the Mariners a favorite in the AL next year.
I'm hoping for a drastic improvement from Raleigh in 2022 along with hoping Tom Murphy finds what he had at the plate in 2019. That's pretty optimistic, but we do have a huge hole at catcher realistically speaking.

It took a little bit longer than expected, but Tyler O'Neill has become the player we all figured he would become. If I recall correctly, we were all big fans and hated the Marco trade when it happened. Hindsight being 20/20 I don't really have any strong feelings on the trade. I think you could argue it turned out to be a wash due to the fact that Marco is a reliable #2 and we were able to get him on a really team-friendly contract extension.

Between Haniger and Lewis, I'd rather have Haniger. The only issue is, what could we really get for Lewis? If the Mariners tried trading him, it would be a huge signal to other teams that the Mariners don't have faith in his health.

I completely agree regarding where Jerry is. I say that as someone who is highly opinionated and I'm not sure what the Mariners should do with the outfield. I didn't know that Semien was their number 1 target, apparently he wouldn't even meet with the Mariners.

Also I'll just say it upright, I don't want to pay Trevor Story the money he will command on the market when he can't hit outside of Coors Field and has a history of injuries. If it is true that Semien was their number one target in FA, I feel like adding Story would almost be desperation mode. I won't cry if the Mariners add Story because even adjusting for his poor numbers outside of Coors Field, he's still an upgrade, just not a cost efficient one.

As much as I'd like to think that there is a possibility Seager didn't play his last game in Seattle, I'd be shocked if he came back. I think the best course of action for the Mariners would be to sign Kris Bryant, and roll with Toro/Frazier at second. But then that begs the question about what to do with the outfield. I honestly have no clue, but I'm sure whatever the Mariners do I will either hate or try to convince myself was a good idea.

Eh, IMO if they are truly going to compete for a wild card spot they can only really afford to have Kelenic and JRod as the unproven guys. Toro should get plenty of playing time but IMO he should not be a starter at 3B. Plus if they aren’t going to spend then they better be making some serious trades to fill out the offense.
I hate to be that guy but I honestly don't think the M's will compete for a wild card spot this season. So many things had to go right for them to be there last year and I think they take a step back. I don't think they'll be awful by any stretch, and I would absolutely love to be wrong, but I still think this year is going to be another building year and not a legitimate contender year.

Could very easily be right. It is tough to carry late game magic over to the next season when you did s much wrong early in games. Adding talent could overcome that, but they have a ways to go for that.

I don’t know Raleigh’s AA numbers but I had low expectations for him going into AAA and he really improved at the plate. I don’t necessarily expect him to not improve going into the season I just have zero faith in Murphy and I don’t think it is reasonable to expect Raleigh to catch 140 plus games.

We have talked the Marco deal to death. No one will ever be able to convince Jerry couldn’t gotten Marco for less than O’Neill.

I think it is an easy Haniger over Lewis but it is hard to deal a former ROY (even if it has an asterisk) when he is at his rock bottom level. No idea what they could get back for him. But Divish hasn’t said it but has heavily insinuated that there is an issue with Lewis not trusting the Mariners training/medical staff. So that is something to keep an eye on.

I don’t mind Story but totally understand being hesitant especially depending on the salary. But that is kind of the risk Jerry took when he circled this off-season to “spend”.

That is fair, and I’m not saying they are going to guaranteed a playoff spot. Big question then is what to do with Jerry because if they don’t he needs be fired but with his new position is he going to fire himself?
