I would include White in a second for Manaea and Olson or those two and Chapman. I would not give White away because there is no reason to, but I would trade him for legit MLB players.

Okay I wasn't too far off.

It seems every year my Mariners memory gets tested more and more. I didn't remember Steve Balboni leading the M's in HR's with 21 in 1988.

Dipoto during the WS.

Then there is the possibility of trades. While teams are not allowed to sign free agents until five days after the completion of the World Series, trades can occur 24 hours after the final pitch. In his end-of-season press conference, Dipoto said that he anticipates being “very aggressive out of the gates” when the market opens. And conversations with other teams have already begun, as he said Thursday morning.

“The teams that are not involved in the postseason, we talk on a daily, weekly basis. (We) check in with the other teams, determine what their direction is, where you might match up in trade,” he told Mike Salk during the weekly Jerry Dipoto Show, which airs live at 8:30 a.m. every Thursday on 710 ESPN Seattle.

“That has turned into more of the trade hub than the winter meetings,” said Dipoto. “Most of the discussions and the real heavy lifting in getting trades done starts, even culminates, at the GM meetings. Between that time in early November and the start of the winter meetings in early December is where it really gets done.”

Dipoto at GM Meetings:

While Dipoto has had face-to-face meetings with teams on potential trades and the representation of free agents of interest, he said it is not likely the Mariners will add a player before the meetings come to a close Thursday afternoon.

“I think it is more laying the groundwork,” he said. “These are places where you can get a trade done quickly, but the free agents, you are probably laying the groundwork more than you are completing a deal.”

-----------------------

He is the biggest BS'er in the land. Selling fans on rebuilds and big offseason. Could it still happen? Sure. Do I believe him even a bit? Nope. The Neil Olshey of baseball is selling himself because I don't think he actually knows how to get it done and it scares him. Not many GM's leave Seattle and get another GM job and he knows it.

The Rationale for the Mariners

Jerry Dipoto has already stated that none of the likes of Jarred Kelenic, Julio Rodriguez, Noelvi Marte, and George Kirby will be traded this offseason, as they are all a major part of Seattle’s plans for long-term success. However, anyone from Emerson Hancock and down in the Mariners’ #2 ranked prospect system should be fair game, as long as it helps the Mariners beyond just 2022.

Matt Olson would be a bona fide superstar on a young Mariners team, and his playoff experience, Gold Glove-caliber defense, and left-handed power would make the Mariners immediately much, much better.
