A Mariners 3 Team Trade: Acquiring Adam Frazier and Willson Contreras

The Mariners need upgrades at second base and catcher. There is a 3 team trade idea where the Mariners, Padres, and Cubs get players that fit their teams.

For the Mariners, they get two players who can solve their problems at catcher and second base. Willson Contreras gives them a catcher for 2022, which they could also extend but are only trading for the one year. Also, they get Adam Frazier, who was rumored to be linked to the Mariners at the trade deadline but was traded to the Padres. The Padres, however, have a bit of an infield log jam and could trade Frazier to upgrade at other positions of greater need.

The Mariners are sending away DeLoach and Murphy to the Cubs and reliever Drew Steckenrider to the Padres. They get two good players in this deal, but they are only under contract for one more year. The Mariners should not say no to this deal because they get two positional upgrades and can have a much better year on offense in 2022 with these upgrades.

Adam Frazier is a really good slap hitter who doesn’t always hit the ball hard, but he makes a ton of contact. He rarely strikes out and therefore doesn’t walk a ton. He was a really solid player last year and would be a massive upgrade for Seattle. Willson Contreras is in many ways the opposite type of player offensively. He hits the ball hard, and strikes out a lot, and doesn’t walk a ton. He was far better than Tom Murphy in 2021 and would be a good upgrade.

I would include White in a second for Manaea and Olson or those two and Chapman. I would not give White away because there is no reason to, but I would trade him for legit MLB players.

yeah////the whole thing is...he is a gold glove 1B....who was brought ..up a bit early.so..for example:......say thy put him at tacoma...for a year...
maybe he starts hitting at some point......
if you..have olson.you only have him for 2 years...till new contract........so if you keep white...at least for now...you can make a decision ...later
see how he does at tacoma 1st..........

it is a gamble..........but i think he can hit better....so i would take it......-like..it took kelenic..all year..before he started,..hitting better...
it just..takes..time............of caorse..if it takes..to long...then you have to move...on......at some point.......i could be wrong............i just think...not now..

As the Mariners approach an active offseason, some talented young players (such as Jake Fraley) could be traded for present contributors.​

The Mariners will be presented with a logjam of talent in their outfield next season; Kyle Lewis, Jarred Kelenic, and Mitch Haniger are expected to be locks in the starting lineup, plus it’s expected the Mariners will pursue a free agent outfielder (such as Michael Conforto) to rotate with Lewis and Haniger in the DH spot. Take into consideration youngsters Julio Rodriguez, Taylor Trammell, and Fraley, and it’s clear the Mariners have the depth to make a move.

A savvy General Manager should never trade talent just to trade talent, but they should trade talent if it merits a significant return that can help a contending team get over the hump. Of the six outfielders listed above, I believe Fraley’s future with the team is the most doubtful, while still having enough talent to instigate an intriguing trade.

Due to Fraley’s youth and lack of completion of a full major league season yet, I believe rebuilding teams will be the primary suitors for Fraley’s services; with that in mind, let’s check out some of the best fits from around the league for a trade involving our favorite bearded blonde:
