So you just took what I said out of context. I said I don't think the Mariners had mismanaged Mitch Haniger over the years and they were the best thing to happen to him in HIS career. I really believe Mitch would just be a platoon player somewhere and not what he is today if not for the Mariners. Personally I think Jerry Dipoto has done a great job I'll argue that with anyone. When he took over in 2016 he has built one of the best farm systems in baseball including the #1 overall prospect in Julio Rodriguez, plenty of cap space, and was only 2 games away from making the playoffs with a mega young team. All of his moves weren't perfect but I think he has paved a bright future for the organization.
agreeeeeed.....

I think Arod was on a mission to test free agency and get the biggest contract that would break records. If Mitch made it clear he wants to test free agency then I would say look into what we could get for him but I think we need to sign him to an extension. We need veteran leadership on the team and Seattle isn't exactly a destination free agents want to play for unless we over pay them.
.....agreed ill go with an extention.....but...market vallue...would be better...so extention...plus you mean....

but a qualifiing offer...plus signing bonus..
may be aceptable..

not extention...

even...if...you would take less....your agent will ..never let ..you.....take much....less...matbe a mater..of ...i want to play there...not there...is a diff story.

I think that's partially true but I also think the Mariners didnt make a serious effort. Their offer was I think 5 years or less, cant remember.
It was three years at $18 million a year. Griffey’s was 4 at $16 million which caused the rift no matter how many times Junior says it was being close to his family.

On Friday, the two sides made progress on Draft lottery discussions, which could be settled Saturday. But the sides must bridge the gap on key issues including the competitive balance tax, Super Two eligibility, minimum salaries and a dollar figure for a pre-arbitration bonus pool.
Did you like this story?

The Mariners made their best offer on a Sunday before learning on Monday morning that it wasn’t enough. 5 years and $19 million a year. The contract only guaranteed $60 million over 3 years; the rest was a 2-year option. Pat Gillick admitted later, “I don’t believe they were particularly happy with our proposal. We had some inclination it wasn’t too well-received.” Gillick also confirmed the Mariners weren’t going anywhere near 10 years.

At the press conference announcing his signing, A-Rod took some shots at the Mariners’ offer. “They were never an option... I’m glad they didn’t make it a close call.”

“Strategically, I wanted to give Seattle the last chance, to give them the opportunity to bring me back because I felt I owed it to them,” Rodriguez said. But he concluded, “Texas really made it easy for me.”

On which part? You think Haniger can net a legit prospect?
I forgot the original question...lol.

The question about if he can net a legit prospect; I think he could get a teams #5-10 prospect and a 20's prospect. Not a Top 10 MLB prospect. Plus we have a lot of extra fridge MLB players to add to a deal to get a top end prospect. He is a cheap bat with power numbers on a 1 year deal. I think the trade deadline last season would have proved more valuable of a time to trade him, but the season prevented that. I think they get rid of the competitive balance pick on free agent signings. Players hate it and for good reason and GM's try to avoid it in most cases.

Hmm, I didn’t know they made another offer to him outside the one that made him the highest paid player. I can’t blame him for taking the money I just hated how he kept saying it wasn’t about the money every time it was mentioned in 2000. You can tell fans still have hurt feelings over that by what is going on with Russell Wilson.
