Because of their main players, Reddick is the only shooter.

Ball is a bad shooter. He is improving, but his FT% and career 3 point percentage show his actual ability. 2020 might have been an outlier career best 3 point percentage for him.

I would bet on both those percentages going down.

And 35% isn’t very good.

Yep, one thing scouts go by to project a player's ability to shoot the ball is how well they shoot FT's. I know Ball doesn't shoot many FT's and he seems to be improving as a shooter but he has long way to go.

I get what you're saying but i still don't think they'll be a bad shooting team. You don't go from 7th in 3 pt % to bottom of the league as you're suggesting unless you lose most of your top shooters fron the previous season which didn't happen here

I think Ball and Ingram had good years. I don’t believe they are going to shoot that well again. Reddick also had the 2nd highest percentage of his career.

Those numbers are likely to go down.

38% isn't crappy.

Stop it

Look at his shooting numbers for his career dude. 3pt and FT.

38% is the outlier.

No good shooter shoots 56% from line free throw line. That is horrendous for anyone, but especially a guard.

The convo was 3point shooting.

Thanks for playing.

I just don't get how Ball has such an awful shooting % when he either takes a 3 or drives. He needs to be a PG that just distributes and shoots 3's...he needs to thrive on the defensive end and make that his forte. Be like Rubio with a better 3 ball

Whiteside would be a fool to sign with the Lakers.

The minutes and the role just aren’t there for him.

Depends on how many minutes Gasol has in him per game and how he approaches it, imo. The Lakers want AD at the 5 as little as possible. Bringing in Whiteside helps with that and keeps them from having to use Gasol too much.

Whiteside is known for putting up good stats, but having little impact on the game. If the Lakers used him in a similar fashion to how they used Dwight, he could have fewer minutes, but impact the game more.

whiteside’s defensive metrics were better than Thompson’s last year. Which is wild.

Agree. I'd also add that having Zion and Adams working in the paint should lead to open 3's. You give most NBA players wide open 3's and they will hit them. Last years Lakers are a pretty good example.

They had a bunch of guys who were mostly average at best 3 point shooters, but they were able to hit them at higher rate than expected because Lebron and AD got them a lot of wide open looks.

lol

3 years is a very small sample size. If memory serves, he shot the 3 pretty well in college. We're not talking about a guy who's been in the league for 8 years and shot in low 30% range except for 1 year. That would be a true outlier with plenty of evidence to show it as an outlier.

His rookie year, he shot 31% from 3.

His second year he shot 33% from 3.

Last year he shot 38%. You can call it an outlier I suppose, but it also shows improvement each season.

He needs to do that or commit to scoring more. He might be more about passing and setting up his teammates than even Magic was. Not that he'll ever be Magic (he won't) but that's who he plays like.

I think part of it is that he may actually be too unselfish. He's unselfish to the point that he too often will pass up an open shot for himself to pass to a teammate. That actually starts to work against what he's trying to do because teams sag off of him knowing he's not going to shoot.

Magic had similar issues early in his career until he improved his shooting.

Yeah, you are out of your depth here.

It is possible that Ball’s form change leads to a jump in FT percentage in future seasons.

But go ahead and find me other players in the league who shoot as poorly as Ball from the FT line and consistently shoot 37% or better from 3.

You want to bet on Ball’s 3 point percentage this season? I will bet he shoots less than 37.5%.

The minutes just aren’t there unless guys are inactive though.

The Lakers already have 4 guys on their roster who are going to be fixtures in the rotation and are getting 100% of their minutes at the 4 and 5.

Davis is going to play 33-36 minutes a game. Harrell is going to get 25-30 and some of those minutes will be alongside AD.

Kief is going to play 15-20.

So, 96 minutes to divvy out, and the Lakers will really only need a true 5 for about 20-25 minutes tops. Some games it will be a lot less. Some perhaps a few more.

But if Whiteside is smart, he is going to look for a roster where he is guaranteed a large role like he had in a Portland pre-Nurkic.

Battling Marc Gasol for a split of about 25 minutes a game isn’t it. And I don’t think he gets the big piece of that pie either.

I can see why Laker fans would want an extra talented player. But in this case, I do really believe less is more.

Maybe Whiteside wants to win? If he signs.....he is getting most of those 25mpg and Gasol is getting 5-8mpg.

Whiteside could play 1-2 seasons in LA and still get a bigger deal afterward.
