Schneider is still at the controls, right? Big money spent in the first wave of free agency still doesn't usually pan out, right? Just checking.

I'm fine with not going after other big ticket players. As long as we bring Clowney back and add a few more mid tier lineman.

Even with Clowney back our DL, as currently constructed, is actually worse than it was last year.

And Clowney's return, in my opinion, gets increasingly likely by the minute with him still out there and pretty much not even a rumor about other teams being actively pursuing him.

Well, I guess I have 2 thoughts on that: 1) 'currently constructed' doesn't mean a whole lot because there are about 3 waves of free agency plus the draft and 2) development of younger players like Rasheem Green and LJ Collier are wildcards. We also don't know that Jarran Reed of 2020 is going to be a repeat of '19 or something more similar to what we saw in '18 when his season wasn't derailed by suspension.

It's just way too early to wring hands about pretty much anything. Seems like we do it every year though....but then I'm also not one of the guys who rushed out and bought up all the toilet paper either.

Well certainly they are going to bring in new players. And maybe Green and Collier will step up their game but I sure don't want to count on that. I do think that Reed will be better this season than last but, still, our DL was terrible last year. Slight improvement isn't going to get it done.

I'm not hand wringing right now. I'll start doing that if we let Clowney go and we replace him with 32 year old Everson Griffin.

AM hoping Finney means they will cut Britt to get another $9M to spend elsewhere.

woah woah woah do not jump the gun here. The Hawks have not resigned Ifedi or Fluker so yes they need oline so it makes no sense to cut ties yet with someone under contract when you can not even field a full starting 5. This team needs guard and tackle help and Finney can play both Guard spots and Center. Finney is graded at the same Level as Joey Hunt, It's not like he is some "good" Olineman.

In other news the 4.2 Million they will pay Joey Hunt is STUPID!

Who are they? I think this is a list of DE's the Hawks will try to grab a player or two from and it might be after the draft. No big names but i just have a feeling this is the short list. based on "age" going younger and the fact that they do not seem to be looking for any kind of "upgrades" as we have not even heard RUMORS of them interested with a first Tier level DE.

could get real ugly fellas as far as our defense goes. All the rumors i hear is for like WR, RB, OL, like they plan to become a power house offense .... they tie Wilsons hands so much on offense this makes no sense to me unless they all of a sudden say " lets open it up and i mean WIDE open" who knows.

We traded for Sheldon Richardson in '17 and Clowney in '19, so I am not ruling out bringing someone in that way instead of through free agency. I don't think the front office is going to pin all hopes on just 1 way of improvement. However, I suspect they are pretty confident that LJ Collier will make a bigger contribution in year 2 when he hopefully won't miss camp with injury. We were pretty excited about signing Ansah last year and that turned out to be a waste, so I'm just not sweating it seeing these other guys getting snapped up in the initial stages of free agency (which still doesn't officially start until 4pm eastern). For all we know, we are working on a trade for Shaq Barrett or the dude from Jax right now. I'll just wait to grade things until I see the total approach. Maybe it's Clowney re-signed plus mid-level FAs plus an early DL draft pick. Lots of ways to do it without having to blow early FA $.

I don't care if we spend money early or not. I care whether we fix the problems with the team.

Well sure, and my point is it's way premature to worry that we haven't fixed a problem when free agency just started 90 minutes ago and there are all sorts of ways to address weaknesses from now until we actually put a team on the field.

EDIT: and you know as well as I do how bad of an idea it usually is to spend big money in the 1st wave of free agency. It hardly ever works out the way you hope. Yet here we are as a group, pretty much wondering why we aren't doing it.

whats the price? i am fine with Irvin if the price is low enough. He wasn't an "issue" when he left and was a solid player to be honest. Sure his best is behind him but we got NOTHING really.

I think Quinton Jefferson going to the Bills is a bigger loss than it's being made out to be. I feel like he was probably the most underrated player on the team and IMO by far our second best defensive lineman behind Clowney. He's no Michael Bennett, but he's a versatile guy who I think can play inside and outside at a starting caliber level.

He was mostly a rotational player in 2019 so I would assume/hope that it's not for much because that would put our salary cap at a level where it wouldn't be feasible to add a guy like Clowney or Yannick Ngakoue without releasing/restructuring the contracts of Justin Britt and/or K.J. Wright. I have to assume the signing of B.J. Finney might be a contingency plan if we have to move on from Britt.

If Irvin and *insert current player on the roster right now* are the solution to our pass rush issues, 2020 is going to be more of a headache than this fucking virus.

in that case he had a career year as a rotation player getting 8.5 sacks last season.
