Lets do this!
How do we clear cap space and what do we do with the cap space that we cleared?
Congrats to Couts for being only the 3rd Flyer in history to win the Selke. What a season he had. Bergeron had a monster season as well. That had to be tough to vote. Congrats!
what is there cap currently? I would think they would have to let some players go, no? I look at Toronto as well.Tampa appears to be the class of the East, the only question is, how close are we to them? We beat them in the round robin and stole the top seed, but I think most everyone would argue those games didn't matter like they do now.
Would we be sitting in a better spot against Tampa than the Islanders currently are down 1-3?

I wonder if Hedman is his final year? Id love to have Victor Hedman playing with our young dmen. Let Braun go. Nisky has like 1 year left I think?Yaa buddy. They've got some decisions to make this offseason. They've got 76M committed out of 81.5 with only 15 players (20 dress per night). They only 3 dmen signed .
Sergachev and Cirelli being two bigger names that are RFA.
They kind of need to win the Cup this year haha
I agree and sitting Farabee was just over coaching in the playoffsWhile I like the idea of waiting to dangle Ghost to the Kraken as a sweetener to committing Cap suicide in taking JvR or Jake, That means another season with those contracts on the books and players in the system.
One thing that has come to me more and more and that I keep coming back to is that the Flyers, and many other teams, continue to play offensive players as checkers in their first few seasons. "You have to earn it". Guess what? Some players are never going to be decent checkers, but in a system where they can flow...they will be offensive threats.
I bring this up because I see Farabee and Frost and to a lesser extent Lacynski all being stuck in the same boat. Play low end minutes and get benched for making a mistake, or being physically over matched against a third line grinder.
I say let them dart, give them the minutes, the more the merrier. Just a thought.
can the Flyers buyout the contract or has that rule changed? They did with Lecavlier a few years back, no?Weird one of the day. I think in order to move JvR, the Flyers will have to take an unsavory salary back. But, I think they'd be better off with that overpaid guy on the back end. There's also lots of talk about teams trying to cut salary because revenue is down with no gate prices. Even teams like the Penguins who you'd think would be rolling in the dough, have reports out that they want to get more than just cap compliant, even go a few million under the cap.
What about a deal centered around JvR and PK Subban? He's had a pretty terrible 2 years, especially compared to his $9M cap hit and $10M salary. It does look like his actually salary drops to $8M next season. He's signed for 2 more years, both $8M real salary.
So the Devils save $1M in real salary, $2M in cap dollars, for the next two seasons. Then they have JvR for 1 more season at $7M cap, $5M real salary. Flyers move their most overpaid guy from offense to defense, get a RH shot to balance all 3 pairs. And Subban had some good years, maybe he can recreate them? Flyers get out of the cap hit 1 year early, compared to JvR.
I don't know if it really works. JvR is owed $17M over 3 seasons, Subban is owed $16M over 2 seasons. So the Devils actually take on $1M in real dollars.
It's not really an attractive deal, because Subban might be toast. 18 points and -21 this year. And $9M for a guy on your 3rd pair or worse, is scary. But you do get out 1 year early.
I think if JvR gets moved, it will have to be something like this. But the more I dig in to the details of this one, I don't think Subban is the answer. I'd rather have JvR at $7M for 3 more years.
I would not like to do this trade as Subban has been terrible and i think hes done. However we really need to move JVR for something because here is our LW situation next season if Patrick comes back.Weird one of the day. Can we survive letting Braun go and just putting Ghost in that 6/7 spot ? If not what do we do with Ghost who is making 4.5 for the next three seasons.
This lineup has no Frost in it and im almost positive he will be on the big club next season. Farabee is out of position.I think they could basically bring the majority of it back and hope young guy progression puts them in a better position to win next year. No Thompson, Pitlick, Grant, or Braun leaves you with:
Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Lindblom - Hayes - Konecny
JvR - Patrick (2M) - Farabee
Raffl - Laughton - NAK (1.2M)
Provorov - Niskanen
Sanheim - Myers (3M)
Ghost - Hagg (2M)
Hart
Elliot (2M)
79.5M. The guys with ( )'s are guesses. Probably pretty conservative on Hagg, Myers, and NAK; I doubt those guys will get more than that especially with the flat cap situation limiting teams throughout the league. Patrick I have no idea what to put, that's a WAG.
So they could roll with that, if they wanted to. That's a pretty damn good team on paper IMO. Could do some different things with Frost and maybe Friedman in there at lower prices if you clear roster spaces. Laczynski, Bunnaman, and Sandin could also be options for the 4th line. Zamula I think would be the next d-man to challenge for a spot on the left side, but only if Ghost gets moved. The more I think about it, the more a Ghost trade makes sense. Hagg-Friedman could be a decent 3rd pair too. Clears the Ghost contract, gives them some wiggle room, should be able to get some value back for him.
I hate it, because I love watching Ghost play when he's on. But it does make some sense.
I was just putting them out there to look at everyone. Farabee has played LW and RW, though in the playoffs they seemed to like him on the left. This lineup has no Frost in it and im almost positive he will be on the big club next season. Farabee is out of position.
