That said, a lot of teams have had issues defensively in the first 8 games of the season. Just within our own division, the Pens have given up 30 goals, Caps 26 goals (equal to us) and Sabres 24 goals. Along with them, we still make up 4 of the top 5 teams in the East division.

I just have to say that it feels good to sweep a couple games against both NJ and Pitt so early on in the season. For as long as I've been watching hockey, these are our top two rivals, so it's great to dominate them even when we aren't playing near our best.

Now on to the Islanders. Have a good chance to get to the 14 points I had hoped for in January.

So true. I hated losing to the Devils through the 90s to the early 2000s. It's nice to be the better team now. The Pens run is pretty much done imo. I think they will struggle to make the playoffs. Once Sid retires, they will be the bottom feeders like they were throughout the 80s pre Lemiux era.

like I said though, I miss having that physical presence on defense like we used to have.

I'll enjoy the win, but damn it was sloppy play by the defense the first 2 periods. Hart made a few great saves. Gust continues to be a turnover liability. The third period was an entirely different team. If this team is going to make a deep run, I think they need to add a physical dman at the deadline imo.

I know this is crazy talk, but damn did anyone else notice JVR was all over the place playing both ends of the ice. I think he's finally catching on! Def one of the better players last night.

He played well but dont get fooled just like every year he starts out good and disappears or gets hurt and we are back to the same old big puss that we have become accustomed to.

AV was all over them yesterday. Benching Hagg/Friedman and being pretty blunt about them not playing well enough. Then post game he was pretty tough on the Patrick/Hayes lines for not playing the right way. I think the 4th line got the most minutes in the 3rd. Raffl had more ice time than Voracek, JvR, Lindblom, and Farabee.

He's definitely pushing "you guys are better than this". Good to see.

I'm sure he knows more about hockey than all of us combined, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. While there is more urgency this season due to there only being 56 games, we've started out 5-2-1 and we lost arguably our best player and Selke Trophy winner early in game two. He's still at least another two weeks away, so we're really going to have to manage without him.
