Didn't stay up for it, but how about the Blues win over Avs..... I listened to NHL on satellite for a couple of hours yesterday early ---- every analyst has anointed the Avs as Cup winners. It's one game, but good for the Blues (and Berube)
I will agree good for the Blues. I hear a lot about the Knights winning as well the Avs and everyone sleeping on the Blues who got better this year from what ive heard.

Yep. So much Avs love this offseason. The clear favorite everywhere you look. Happy to see the Blues stop it cold for at least a day or two.

Avs skaters look like an extremely solid group. But can Grubauer take them to the promised land?

Last night the Leafs trailing the Habs 3-1 in the first period looking like they are still sleeping. Simmonds drops the gloves and drops Chabiot and the team pointed out after the win that Simmonds woke them up.

How about PP2 last night!? Probably equaled their goal total from the past 6 years in just one game!

And they probably looked their best on the one PP they didn't score on. Farabee was a man possessed.
And I loved the start of the third AV’s move to drive competition. The PP2 was the hot hand and with everybody fresh out of the 2nd intermission he puts the PP2 on the ice before PP1. What have you done for me lately is the way of championship competition.

You forgot Raffl. Our 4th line is very good this year.
I didn't forget the 4th line Las I expected them to be good as all three of those players have been productive of late. They didn't disappoint I love and respect them all. My point was we weren't sure about the others for various reasons. I know it's one game but seeing them chip in already was great.

I know you hate JVR but even if he routinely produces on the PP or scores an important goal periodically it all helps. Don't underestimate the importance of screening the goalie two goals came from that and it's not always easy standing in front of the net. Not as bad as what Tim Kerr had to deal with but still not as easy as some make it out to be. That's his role and if he can continue to do this I'm fine with him.

"Routinely" produces on the power play is just out and out laughable

Standing in front of the net being all he can do does not make a complete player as his minus 2 in the game points that out

Raffl had a goal maybe we should pay him 7 million. He does a lot more out there than JVR.

The big difference to me last night is that the boys did not shit the ice when the Pens would dominate the offensive zone. Rather than chase around and then take a penalty, the team collectively remained calm. I think Laughton was the only one who toke a penalty one time when the Pens were flying around. Maybe they have enough trust that Hart will make a save vs. skating around with their hair on fire. Such a better team effort.

You missed my point for him to be effective and earn his keep he must routinely produce especially on the PP. If he does and the Flyers win its all good. Of course scoring 30 goals a year helps the cause he must get back to that. And yes it would help if his line wasn't a minus.

If you've ever played team sports everyone has a role and must do their part. JVR has been spotty no doubt but remember he's not being paid to fight he's being paid to score. Raffl is not expected to score 30 but when he pops them in sure it's fantastic.

Its so funny how fast you forgot he was so bad that he was a healthy scratch in last years playoffs .Let me remind 12 games 2 goals o assists minus 3. I guess AV isnt familiar with roles in team sports as well.

Hagg looked very physical last night as well. He had 4 hits, but I thought if was more. He needs to stray in the lineup.
I agree Haag is really our only physical defenseman. He isnt flashy and his plus 14 and physical presence is a nice fit for a 5/6.

Tk had a couple of nice hits yesterday as well

Where did I say he was getting it done last year Las? I simply said he's off to a good start. He did his job on the PP and scored a goal. That's expected of him or yes he should sit in the presser. If he does more even better. No different than the 4th line if those guys break even against Malkin I consider it a win. If they score great but I don't fail them if they don't as that's not their role on the team. Either way be happy with the good start even by players you hate...

The future is extremely bright for this team when you consider that we're already good now. Of the 19 players from opening night who saw action, 9 of them are 24 years of age or younger (47%) and have yet to even enter their prime. The others are mostly veterans, but I would argue that nobody is truly over the hill at this stage. It's a great mixture of talent with considerable depth now at every position. Hopefully we stay healthy and avoid covid19.
