Morning boys. I was just checking the net to see any interesting rumors. The one that caught my eye is pretty interesting, but I can't imagine both sides would do a deal. Would you do this trade?
Flyers get Patrick Laine from Jets for
Frost, Ghost, and our 1st round pick 23rd overall going to the Jets.

Uh, yeah, I feel like that's a slam dunk trade for us. I'm not really sure why the Jets would even consider it. That said, Laine will be due a monster contract after next season, but he'll arguably be worth every penny of it too.

Agreed. Ghost and 1st would be a steal. Lots of talk about Laine being too one dimensional (shot) and that’s why he’s available from Winnipeg. But still, Ghost and a 1st would be great, I’m sure the Jets will get more than that.

Hagg re-signed. 2 years 1.6M cap hit.

Another solid deal. Fletcher really working through the RFA's quickly.

Yep saw that was just gonna comment. That is a real solid deal. Plus 2 years is enough time to see if Hagg has hit his ceiling or is there more to come.

Ya, for sure. Hagg is not my favorite, and I think he kinda is what he is at this point (25 yrs old). But he's solid in the d-zone and 1.6M for a 5th or 6th dman that can play the PK and not be a liability defensively is perfectly fine with me.

Where did everyone go? This forum used to be packed and not that long ago. The draft is only days away. Anyone think we trade out pick?

One year extension for Moose. $1.5MM seems like a good deal for all

Friedman mentioned over the weekend that the Flyers could be mentioned a lot over the next couple days. They have what teams want; young, cost controlled defensemen. Mentioned they could be in discussions for Laine or Gaudreau as a result.

Not really sold on Laine, depending on what it takes to get him. He's a souped up version of JvR really, goal scoring and nothing else. There's not really room for 2 guys like that. So the only way I'm interested in Laine is if they can move JvR. Plus his contract is up at the end of this upcoming season. Gaudreau is interesting though.

Grain of salt though, if you have what a lot of teams want, it might be a good idea to keep it.

I think they're OK without a stud dman. Provorov, Sanheim, and Myers make up a pretty solid 3/4. And Niskanen, for the most part last year, was perfectly suitable in the top 4 as well. Sanheim/Myers at least, should make good strides going into next year as well.

I'm more concerned with their inability to score goals in the playoffs. But I wouldn't go TOO crazy to address that either I don't think.

The Flyers have a really good team. They were arguably the best team in the league January-March. They rolled through the round robin. And they got two rounds of playoff experience, coming 1 game away from the conference finals.

A healthy Lindblom makes a huge difference, he was arguably playing the best of any forward when his diagnosis came down. If Patrick can play (yes, big if) he's an upgrade at the weakest point in the lineup (3C). Plus Frost could fill that role if Patrick can't.

I still say moving Ghost to clear cap space and loading up cap space for a big trade deadline acquisition makes the most sense. This team is obviously good enough to make the playoffs, and win a round or two, as is. Patrick/Frost/Lindblom should improve on that. And a big trade deadline acquisition can put them over the top. Plus that affords them some flexibility to address the true need at that time. 3C is the biggest need right now, but if Patrick/Frost fix that need, then maybe a stud top 4 dman is the true need at the deadline and you address it there.

There doesn't seem to be much talk about the Flyers trading their pick. I hope they move up if they keep it.

Agree. I saw that Montreal may want to trade their pick. I think they have the 16th pick it in that area.

...and then this happened:

Let’s update this: Matt Niskanen has informed PHI that he will retire. Team asked him to take some time and think about it, he did and stayed with that decision. The Flyers are working on re-signing Justin Braun, do not want to lose two critical members of the PK
