Maybe.

A ton of money was wasted on average guys.

Look at what Kent Bazemore got.

Allen Crabbe, Nic Batum, Deng and Mosgov.

But, that was only one of many factors that got him his deal a year early.

Klutch and LeBron were part of the reasoning as well.

That is the thing though.

TT got his before the cap spike.

Just imagine if he had been a restricted free agent in 2016 after the title when everybody got paid?

He would have made more. Maybe a lot more.

Wow...this is why I will never say you cannot top yourself as I know you can always give more.

why would Lebron care? How about because if the deal doesn't get done he does not have TT?

It would have gotten done, because Gilbert needed to, and had to, but it would have been for less.
Everyone here sees this but you.
Im done.

Danny Ferry and the Clippers?

Others have threatened, like Steve Francis.

But, Ferry is the only one I remember going overseas to escape.
Cannot believe I forgot about that one....maybe the therapy from that deal is helping.

Probably the reason the cavs were not willing to take the 3 year deal TT asked for. They knew he'd get a lot more the next time.

I literally have no memory of that happening, but had no reason to care.

Apparently that is how Porzingis got NY to trade him.

Ooh.

But not because that would have been his market value.

Cavs were always going to pay TT above market.

Or they knew the Cavs would match.

You already proved own comments wrong once, matter of time before you do it again.
I don't believe that was a guarantee.

Cavs weren't willing to go max.

Plus, there are ways to structure deals to discourage matching.

Do you remember the poison pill era with Jeremy Lin, Asik in Houston?

You can front or back load deals to make it very unattractive for a luxury tax team to match.

Sometimes it works, like the guys listed above.

Sometimes it doesn't, like in the case of Miami with Tyler Johnson, Blazers with Allen Crabbe.

In the case of the latter, both teams matched and regretted the Shit later.

You asked why would Lebron care. Clearly, you were foolish to think he would not care.

Hell, you even said he wanted to get him more because it costs Gilbert and he hates Gilbert. doesn't that still apply if no Klutch or does he like Gilbert if there is no Klutch?

Rhetorical. answer is obvious...also obvious you wont answer as it proves your logic to be off base.....again.

That could be said for anyone who signed that summer.
It was a one year thing that benefitted a bunch of players.
It won’t happen again.

don't disagree one bit. Most non max players get above market value and the Cavs knew they needed TT to help get back to the Finals (as no one else they could have gotten who was better).

I kind of hate RFA.

It forces teams to grossly overpay marginal players.

Because in order to get the bird rights team not to match, you have to do something that makes the contract unappealing for that team.

That almost always results in a bad contract for non-max RFAs that teams actually want.

Done debating the why, just gonna point out though that you are now agreeing that James got him more, which you’ve been arguing against now for 500 posts.

Yep.

It's great for the good players to borderline All Stars in small markets, or on struggling rosters, because it forces teams to retain you at top dollar.

I think it's designed to pretty much make it so the player has no choice but to stay which is why it seems it is rarely ever used with the player leaving.

actually in every post I argue Lebron being part of Klutch had nothing to do with it and Lebron would have wanted him signed at all costs regardless. You even made the same argument when you said he hates Gilbert and wanted him to spend extra.

I get it....another mistake you made you wont own up to. Just your lack of reading comprehension again.

Fuck off.
He was with Klutch which benefits LeBron and in more than one way.
Signed at all costs are your words that means what?
OVERPAID
Exactly what I've said and everyone has said EXCEPT YOU.

I guess, but wouldn't the same happen if they were unrestricted in many cases?

To me the guys it hurts the most are the stars who might want to leave. They can't, and the only way they can any time soon is sign a very short deal which they might not because of the injury risk.
