And funny enough, the only reason they even got to the Fina ls now plays in LA. Which must kill a guy like Wiggy who hates the Lakers more than anything

In fact, i'm willing to bet my left testicle (see what I did there ;) ) that Wiggy bawled like a little baby when that news came out
All seriousness I'm betting he was like most. It sucked...wanted him to stay.....but we got a title and it was not nearly as bad as the first time.

Can't everyone be a little right and agree to disagree?

You are on bath salts if you think any other team was willing to pay Tristan close to that amount.

Yes, Gilbert knew the cap was going up and he'd get offers the following year.

Also, emphatically, YES, Klutch and James were a huge reason Thompson got as much as he did.

LeBron wanted him back and the Cavs didn't have the ability to bring in another guy with his perceived upside because of their payroll.

So, Klutch singer or not, they were going to have to overpay....

But, probably not to the extent that they did.

It pays to be friends with LeBron James.

It pays to share his agent, too.

Not that Tristan Thompson is getting $82 million just for that. LeBron has a lot of friends who aren't getting $82 million of Dan Gilbert's money.

Nonetheless, Thompson agreeing to a five-year deal just days before the season opener after months of haggling and weeks of holding out is the latest example of the LeBron Effect.

LeBron usually gets what he wants, and in this case, he really wanted Thompson to be on his team this season.

Thompson's return to Team LeBron was only going to be a matter of price.

Thompson wanted a max deal totaling $94 million. The Cavs weren't willing to go that high.

Much to Thompson's chagrin, not a single team stepped forward with a max offer sheet, which would've made everyone except Gilbert happy. Thompson would've gotten his max, LeBron would've gotten his teammate back, and Paul would've gotten a bigger commission.

It didn't unfold this way simply because Thompson is worth more to the Cavaliers than he'd be worth to any team that might've contemplated extending him an offer sheet.

"Big difference between what he wants and what he's worth," one NBA source said as the saga unfolded.

Would Thompson have been worth all that trouble (and money) to, say, the Portland Trail Blazers? Not by a long shot. But given the stakes for the Cavs in this second coming of the LeBron era, he's worth it to them.

I have agreed that they were smart to keep him for reasons mentioned.
He was also smart to unite with Klutch for obvious to all but @dtgold88.

If there were “facts”, then you would know.

I offered what we know.
Many players were mentioned during FA. TT never was.
No Lakers fan that I ever saw suggested he was a viable option.

We saw how the AD thing went down.
LeBron is anything but subtle when he wants something.
TT was a restricted FA if memory serves. Do you not get that? anyone signed him knew all they were doing was negotiating for the Cavs as they would match it.

My guess is he’ll let your bullshit slide until games start and then if you’re destroying the threads as you do, you’ll be moved to fouled out.
I cannot argue with myself.

Though I do sit back and watch you kick your own ass at times.

That Kawhi guy is not a klutch client.

we also know Lebron spoke up for 2 guys who helped him win and the cavs could not find better replacements if they were not signed.

I don’t think Khawi needed James help to get a higher contract offer.

The others did.

He got paid a lot but it was before the salary cap blew up after that. Gordon Hayword is making 30 mill, and Thompson is making 15. That large contract ended up not being so large in retrospect. Did he get extra? Yeah, and Clutch may have helped but he was a needed player. He basically had a lot of leverage no matter who his agent was.

Im not so sure you wouldn’t argue with yourself.
Fact is without you this place has proven itself to run much more smoothly.
Like I said, not much going on now.
Won’t be the case much longer.

Ironically the lakers weren't any better last year, and most likely this year as well...We were both in the lottery...And we aren't on a 7 year playoff drought lol

Ironically the Lakers ending up in the lottery last season means they got Anthony Davis.

But yeah, they're probably not any better than last season.

Want to place an avi bet when the Lakers play the Cavs?

To say otherwise is revisionist history.

Tristan is role player who was at the right place, at the right time.

It pays to be friends with LeBron James.

I thought Trojan said it best.....neither side got what they wanted but something they could live with. Knowing TT was willing to take less for a shorter deal would think Cavs could have gotten him for less than he wanted on a 3 year deal. If they asked for $51 mil would think they'd have taken in the $45 mil range based on them asking for $90 mil+ and taking $80 mil on 5 year deal.

But they wanted to lock him up longer knowing there'd be a huge spike in the cap.

No one would have given him a max, but my opinion is if he was a UFA someone might have agreed to his 3 year ask.

So leverage = no other offers. Ok.

Getting Anthony Davis was great. But is your team better overall? Literally everyone is gone from ball to Ingram, and the other half of your picks are on the cavs.

I am not sure who is going to be better between the Cavs, Pelicans and Lakers. 1 week avatar the Cavs beat the lakers, we split the series last year lol

So leverage = no other offers. Ok.

He didn't really need another offer tho. The Cavs needed him, and he could just sit and wait. TT still has good trade value now so others are willing to take on his contract.

Hilarious.....I see many ongoing debates of which I am not a part. But you seem to get involved a lot.

Weird.
