What's the latest w/ Melo? Any chance the purple 'n gold pick him up?:hope: As a completely unbiased NBA fan I think he would be an assest off the bench.

I really doubt it. They are holding that last roster spot for a chance at Iggy if he ever gets waived (or another future surprise cut or unexpected need due to injury). Lakers often start the season with an empty roster spot for that flexibility.

Blazers, McCollum Agree To Three-Year Extension
July 30th, 2019 at 1:01pm CST by Luke Adams
The Trail Blazers and guard C.J. McCollum have reached an agreement on a contract extension that will add three years to his current deal, agent Sam Goldfeder of Excel Sports tells ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (via Twitter).

According to Wojnarowski, the two sides have agreed to a three-year, $100MM extension that will keep McCollum under contract for the next five seasons in total — he has two years left on his current deal. Assuming the extension doesn’t feature any options, it will put the 27-year-old on track to reach unrestricted free agency in 2024.

The 10th overall pick in the 2013 draft, McCollum has emerged as one of the league’s best backcourt scorers in recent years, averaging at least 20.8 PPG in each of the last four seasons. In 2018/19, he recorded 21.0 PPG, 4.0 RPG, and 3.0 APG with a shooting line of .459/.375/.828 in 70 games (33.9 MPG).

Because McCollum signed his current contract with Portland on July 27, 2016, he became eligible for an extension on Saturday, three years after that deal was completed. The two sides didn’t waste much time in working something out, with the new contract set to go into effect for the 2021/22 season.

While three years was the most that McCollum and the Blazers could have tacked onto to his current deal, it’s not technically a maximum-salary extension. The standout shooting guard could have earned up to approximately $114MM on that three-year extension, so he’ll accept slightly less than that in exchange for long-term security.

Locking up their key guys, but locking themselves in to some degree as well.

Team salary:
2019: 140M (15 players)
2020: 94.5M (9 players)
2021: 94.1M (5 players)
2022: 84.7M (3 players)
2023: 86.5M (2 players)

Better hope that salary cap keeps jumping...

Yeah, Kobe is at least top 15 all time, I'd even say top 10. But you can't be top 5 if you're not even #1 all time at your position.

Actually, you can. Top 5 doesn't have to be a full team. I don't think Kobe is top 5 regardless, but I would argue that no PF is a top 5 overall player for example. Too many centers that were much more talented and dominant.

Wade was in obvious decline by the end of their run together.

But at the beginning?

He was arguably the 2nd best player in the NBA behind LeBron.

That's what happens when your commercial slogan is "fall down 7 times, get up 8," I guess. Of course, the slogan makes no sense whatsoever. How are getting up an 8th time, if you only fell 7 times lol? I guess he's just giving 114%....

lol I'm not a fan of arguing about the same silly things in the off season. Like having new material to debate about
Sure me too but that doesn't mean you have to stay away. Just skip over people you don't like to read, or block them

What names do you think would be good alternatives? I was thinking the Bobcats or Coyotes. You know, typical So. Cal. animals, something along that vein.

Clippers don't need a name change. They need a jersey/logo change.

Just google fan made redesigns and damn near all of them are better than what they have. These are some of the best

How many 3rd options in the history of the NBA have been better than Bosh?

Only a small handful you can even make a case for.

Klay, Worthy, McHale

Maybe Allen or Pierce.

I mention Love, but he wasn’t better than Bosh.

But really, Bosh was arguably better than all of those guys.

Are you talking strictly on a championship team?

OK...doesn't make them more talented.

It usually makes them better complementary players which form a better team as they understand their role better and you don't have the pains of "learning the game" as you do with young, very immature talent.

You don't think they can undo their image as LA's inferior team even with PG and Kawhi?

Not permanently. Too much Laker history of success in LA. They could irrevocably be second fiddle if they can't win with PG and Kawhi.

They will get better ratings than baseball games. Hell, wouldn't shock me if they get better ratings than early round NBA playoff games.
That's why they are so awesome!

Nope, some teams will always be second in their cities: Mets, White Sox, Jets, Clippers, Nets, etc
