Totally different saying it matters a lot vs. matters as much?

Yeah.

Totally different.

And getting these guys is a percentage game. You will never get every FA you pitch. But, the more you have the opportunity to pitch, the more you eventually get. Which is why I do think it matters a lot to be in the conversation. Which, the Lakers seem to often be.

Because even if the Lakers get 1-10 elite FAs they are in the room with, that works out a lot better than any of these teams:

Milwaukee
Minnesota
Charlotte
Detroit
Washington
Indiana
Sacramento
Memphis
Utah

Among others who get 0-0
Fabulous but no one has to do anything to get a meeting, other than make sure the team stays in LA.

I believe Kawhi didn't want to play with LeBron.
I agree.

Wasn't his first choice of scenarios.

But, I believe be would have gone to the Lakers before returning to Toronto.

If the rumors are to be believed, he wouldn't commit even if the Raps traded for George and Westbrook.

I'm actually coming around on a Westbrook, Butler pairing.

That's what, about 10% lower than a Westbrook/PG pairing? Not too shabby, especially if Westbrook can bounce back a bit this year.

Sure they do.

They have to have an attractive situation.

Maybe it is something that has nothing to do with the team build like the market, or the climate. Maybe it is due to the team or the culture.

Still.

Like I said, many teams never have the chance because they have a lousy market. That matters.

Had to finally ignore bucktails.

Tired of getting notifications for his silly threads on the NBA board.

Of course market matters. I'm just not crediting a team because of the market they play in for getting a guy to talk to them (but not sign him). And, yes, the opposite is true.

Yeah, I think coming home was what Kawhi wanted most. I really don't fault him for that. He led the Raps on a great run to the title. I wish him nothing but the best with the Clippers.

Fuck Kawhi. He waited too long and the FA market dried up. Lakers would have been favorites with the acquisitions of better FA's, even better than if they actually got Kawhi. Dude is a dick.

@Heatles84 @bksballer89 @TurnUpTheHeat

Your boy Herro looks really good.

He can do more off the bounce than I thought. Definitely has to work on his defense, but the kid can score in a variety of ways. He plays with a swagger too. Love that.

It takes more than just the market. There has to be something else attractive about the team.

Look at the Clippers. For years they couldn't even get a meeting with top FA's, even though they are in LA.

They get a new owner, a new FO, a couple of years to show they have their shit together and look at them now. If this was still the Donald Sterling Clippers, Kawhi doesn't even meet with them.

There is no question that location helps teams get meetings, but there's more to it than just location.
