Cannot say I saw Nickiel-Alex. play much and only read a few things. Most projections I saw had him in 20s (couple in the teens) which is pretty much a guessing game. Might it work out? sure, but most in that area don't.

If Hunter is as good as many are saying maybe just stand pat and take him?

I live in VA and watch a lot of ACC games (especially UVA).

Hunter is very good. He is super safe and will almost surely be a starting caliber player, but probably not a star.

Nickiel has a very similar skill set with a bit less length. He could end up being almost as good as Hunter.

And the Pelicans got a lot along with him.

Ultimately though, I think the Hawks fucked the Cavs again. Pretty sure the Cavs wanted Trae Young last year and now I think if Hunter was there at 5 they were going to take him also.

sure, anyone "could be almost as good as anyone" but probably a reason one went 4 and the other 17.....and the extra picks they acquired will probably be in the 20s I'd think. Hayes seems a bit undersized for a center, but different game today so maybe works out. Seems like a good kid.

Might be the case, but think if they wanted him badly enough they could have easily moved up a spot and taken him. I'm sure NO could have used our #5 and traded down with Phoenix or Minnesota for a haul if they chose to.

He is 6'11". He needs to put on some weight but that shouldn't be a problem.

he is a whack job so you never know, but if all the Lakers have to work with is 24M in cap space then i cant see them getting a max guy.

Agree. $28 million might get them Jimmy or Kemba, maybe Kyrie if him being a whack job drives his offers down.

Just like there are reasons Nickiel is on just about every analyst list as a sleeper pick with lottery talent.

Also, not sure why you keep saying "picks in the 20s"

They Pelicans got:

8, 17, 35

And a protected pick from Cleveland that isn't likely to be a lottery pick, but I also would think 15-20 is a decent possibility.

Then, the Pelicans sent out pick 57 along with Solomon Hill's bad contract, which pick 57 does not totally make up for the cost of taking Hill.

That is a crazy cost considering there is no consensus pick at 4. I don't think Hunter would have made it to 8 and that is who ATL wanted, but make no mistake. They gave a ton to get it.

And I like the deal from both sides. Because ATL got their guy, NO wasn't in love with anybody at 4 and they got a ton of assets to move down.

It's amazing what David Griffin has done in his short time there.

I don't think Jerome will start. They have to be looking for PG in free agency.

That'd be even better then. I don't think I'd go Rozier or D'Lo though for them.

I can see why Garland is compared to Lillard but I think he could be more of a Kyrie 2.0. I mean if Kyrie was in this exact draft, coming off that injury, he could have fell to 4 or 5 as well. Kyrie's draft class was pretty weak at the top. But it isn't just about the injury in the lone season in college, Garland has elite ball handling skills, it gives him that separation on his jumpshot since he doesn't have the size. I would say his shot release is quicker though, more like Lillard or Curry. I have no clue how it will work out with Sexton, especially defensively but after that rookie year with Sexton, I thought he had some trouble being a true PG and finding guys, seems more of a SG type that can create his own shot. At 6'2" though he is going to have to really improve defensively. All I know is now they have two guards that can create their own shot and that is huge in today's NBA.

All comes down to Zion being what's expected (and he had nothing to do with that). As of now, who is the best player he's acquired? And, yes, looks like rest of Laker picks will be in the 20s. Cavs pick? teens to 20s is my guess.

Serious question....

Even if Zion is Lebron are any of these guys he's picked/acquired gonna be stud #2 or #3 players on a contender? Most of them are guys Lebron didn't think he could win with or will be picks in mid-late teens or the 20s.

I'm already stanning for Alen Smailagic, who I literally heard of about a week ago. I watched a lot of his youtube highlights and he has an impressive skillset. He's also only 18 (though he looks 35), and has room to grow. I'm on the hype train for sure.

I would have been really happy if the Warriors drafted Windler. Think he's gonna be a solid player for you guys.

I can't imagine if the Warriors got him, he would have been lethal in that offense

I'm thinking more of the draft picks he's accrued. The guys he got from the Lakers are complimentary pieces; not star players.

There is no way that fucker is 18! No way! He does look impressive, a nice stretch, athletic 4 or center....

Bye Draymond lol
