Both the names of J.R Smith and now today Carmelo Anthony are being floated as players headed to the Lakers to play with the new duo and possibly the third star in DeAngelo Russell. I think those two players would be a waste of money and time to bring them in to take-up a roster spot and are being floated in the meaning so some "journalistic" jackass can earn his/her paycheck. Didn't we learn anything with people like Deng, Beasley, and to some extent Stephenson and Chandler?

Melo yes, but no on Smith.....he can shoot and has played with James.....and his defense isn't too shabby either.

I hear Korver could be a possibility as well.....when he gets bought out.

I agree TJF12. If the jackass reports about J.R.Smith potentially re-uniting with LeBron are true, the Lakers would do themselves a huge favor by re-signing Bullock. We gave up Mykhailiuk for that guy. Stick with him and let him ply his long-ball trade for cryin' out loud.

Yeah, Bullock didn't start out that well for the Lakers. But as he got more time and got used to the system and his new teammates, he started looking pretty good.

Yea, D.J., there are a lot of names being floated and I suspect once the AD trade is official (July 6) we will see just who is coming to the Lakers for this year.

I agree TGF12. The thing that has pissed-me-off about the recent Lakers sometimes is that when they do get a decent player who starts to really click, they turn him out for somebody else. They were justified in deals that involved several players you and I could name but I often thought that if they kept Mykhailiuk, he would have developed rather quickly into the consistent sharp-shooter they now have in Bullock.

Yeah, the problem for Mychailuk was the same as for all the youngsters. Once the Lakers signed Lebron, they went from developing a team to win now.

We all liked the kids and were enjoying watching them grow. But the timeline changed.

I'll say this, the Lakers FO had their share of missteps. But somehow, they have managed to create a situation where the Lakers can not only win now, but for the next 8-10 years as well (as long as they don't screw it up).

O.K. I hope this report is true and does have a lot of validity because it is originating from Woj, but if it is true and the Lakers are beginning to meet with D'Lo, that would be another excellent move for the summer. Then offer Bullock a qualifying offer and be done with it.

NBA free agency rumors: Lakers have D'Angelo Russell atop free-agent wish list, set up meeting with former point guard

Hopefully they can get him. Out of all of the FA's the Lakers have been linked to, he may actually be the best fit of anyone not named Kawhi. He's not as good/talented as Kyrie or Kemba. But he's also not as crazy as Kyrie and he's younger than both.

Lebron is the de facto point guard when he's in the game, but he can't do it all game long anymore. D-Lo being a combo guard allows Lebron to "rest" without coming out of the game by him letting D-Lo run the offense from time to time.

Just need to re-sign Caruso to run the offense when both D-Lo and Lebron are resting.

D-Lo (23) and AD (26) would also be a great combo for the Lakers to put pieces around when Lebron retires.

George Hill would be a nice backup if Caruso wants to get more than the Lakers offer.

Yeah, he would. He's 33, so he's older. But that experience would be a plus. Preferable to keep Caruso, imo, because he's younger and could be the Lakers backup pg for several years. But Hill would be a great Plan B.

I agree. Just not sure keeping Caruso is realistic. He can get a decent payday in FA.

Lakers making the final moves to clear the most cap space possible

EDIT: Pure speculation on my part, but the fact that Davis waived his kicker to clear the MOST cap room possible makes you inclined to believe they have a max player lined up (Kawhi, Kyrie, or Butler)

Well since we moved the contracts Wagner, Bonga, and Jones to the Wiz, Kawhi has met with the Lakers and Russell is being openly courted. Should be interesting.

Now everyone and their freakin' brother is being mentioned as a destination for the Lakers. Funny, before we added AD, the Lakers were a consistent dumpster fire that nobody apparently wanted anything to do with in a career move. I suspect since we have cap space to add a third star now, that DeAngelo Russell is that guy. But at this point, we won't know until the AD deal is officially done after the holiday.

Who knows who's coming at this point? :noidea:

Since the Lakers got AD, Kawhi is now said to be seriously considering them and they do have a meeting. He is said to be their #1 target.

Kyrie is said to be their 2nd choice, but it's looking more and more like he and KD are going to the Nets.

Jimmy Butler is said to be their 3rd choice and he has apparently said that he would take less than a max to play with the Lakers. I expect that it wouldn't be that much less though.

D-Lo is said to their 4th choice, or they could also decide to break up the cap space among 2-3 really good role players.
