I would love to make a deep run but right now there are several teams better than us and that's just on our side of the bracket and i feel with a player like Braun impeding the process of our young defense such as Morin and Hagg its just wasting development time as well as Gee and Jake's prime..

I actually see Braun slightly differently. I think Braun is what you hope Hagg develops in to. So Fletcher made a 'win now' type trade, acquired the 'end of development Hagg' to plug in to the roster while G and Jake are in their prime. And he did so by trading picks, rather than prospects that already have some development time.

The Flyers are set up in kind of 3 'generations'. G and Voracek are the 1st generation, Provorov/Konecny/Hagg/Ghost etc. are the 2nd generation, essentially the near term future of the team. Then the 3rd generation which is future picks and maybe the guys picked this year.

Fletcher is 'going for it' while the 1st generation still has gas in the tank. But he's doing so without sacrificing the 2nd generation. The 3rd generation is the one that's taking the hit, in hopes that the 2nd generation is good enough that the window stays open for multiple years and can carry them through to a theoretical 4th generation after that.

I'm gonna wait and see how Vignault(sp) does with the younger players as far as development goes. I would hope that as we speak he is working with them. As with any coaching system, the player can only be as strong as the system will allow him yet that player will need to know his role and try to become a strength in it.

Extremely underrated upgrade this summer IMO.

Are you saying that as a good thing or bad thing lol.

I like the hiring a lot, personally. I don't like Therrien very much, but I like that they have 3 NHL head coaches on the staff. Anyone that thought the team wasn't accountable and/or just didn't care, shouldn't have to worry about that this year.

Yeah I hear ya, I am not a big Mike Yep fan either although he has been a decent asst coach under better head coaches.

The trade of a 32 year old Braun to us doesn't make us better than any of the top teams in the east. For example TB ,Boston, Toronto and Caps. Florida got better and the Pens are still the Pens So all we did by making that trade was stunt the growth of two young defenseman and give away the 41st pick in this years draft and a third round pick next year.

Hextall got fired for being too patient with the kids. At some point you have to start trying to win, and win in the playoffs. Does Braun make the Flyers a top team in the east? Of course not. But Braun, Niskanen, Hayes, and a new coaching staff certainly makes them more competitive than they were last year.

Depth, experience, and a winning culture were the 3 things Fletcher identified as barriers to the Flyers being more competitive. So he added depth and a wealth of playoff/cup experience.

I expect the Flyers to be a hell of a lot more competitive this year than they were last year.

Niskanen and Hayes and the new coaching staff makes us more competitive for sure. A 32 year old Braun does not make us any more competitive with the top teams, especially when we have two good young defenseman that will be put on the shelf for at least two years. To get a 32 year old Braun we basically traded Hagg Morin the 41st player this year and a third round next year. That is ludicrous!

That would be ludicrous, but it's not even remotely true? Hagg and Morin are 100% still on the roster and could see time this year. They could also be traded for other assets.

IMO, at absolute worst, Hagg/Braun are a wash in on-ice talent. If that's the case, it was obviously a bad trade. But if Braun is better than Hagg in 2019/20, this is a good trade. The Flyers have enough 2nd/3rd round level talent in the pipeline to take that risk. The prospect pool is already deep enough that a majority of them won't see extended NHL ice time with the Flyers. Look at all the bottom 6 and bottom pair guys that are already in the system.

If its even a question as to whether Hagg/Braun is better it means that trade should've never have been made. Braun wasn't even better than Hagg last season and that's just Hagg dont forget Morin has some NHL time last season and should be better this season also.

I would also like to point out that Braun is making 3.8 million and Hagg is making 1.125 million. Unless Braun is 3 times as good as Hagg that was a really bad trade.

By that metric Giroux and Voracek should be twice as good as Couturier. And Laughton should be twice as good as Lindblom. Sanheim should be almost 4x the player Myers is. Your boy Brayden Schenn should have had 7.5x the production Brayden Point had this year. Take that line a step further and unless Panarin gets 1,560 points this season he's not worth his contract. I'll call that one now, what a bum.

Here's my 'intangible' factor. Exactly who was the D-man our youngsters should have looked at as a role model ? AMAC? Gudas? (I like Gudas but he's not a #1), maybe some years ago Streit ? Maybe we didn't need both Niskanen and Braun.... but seriously, the young guys need some experienced teammates to bring them along. We needed someone to show that on-ice experience and leadership. Watching tapes can only go so far.

Make Morin and Hagg compete.... Vigneault is going to field the best players he has, and if Braun is a waste, we'll know it soon enough.

Don't forget about Vasilevskiy... in two years he'll have a GAA around .75

But why would we have to pay a guy 3.8 million per year for 2 years to find out we have 2 young defenseman who make a whole lot less that are just as good. As far as a veteran defenseman we had already picked up Nisky and Ghost is a veteran Prov going into his fourth year makes him a vet so we arent as young as we would like to think
