I don't really agree with Voracek being included there. He's a little bit of an up and down guy from year to year, but he's an established top ling winger in the NHL. At worst a 2nd line winger.

Hayes I agree with. If he doesn't produce and produce early, the fans are going to get antsy.

Ghost I kind of agree with, though I think there are others that have more on the line. Ghost is a #1 PP QB in the NHL and pretty established. Teams will always deal with those types of players and the deficiencies they may have at 5 on 5. Plus he's signed for 4 more years.

Guys that have more on the line, IMO:

Hagg is fighting for his NHL career IMO. I would say he's probably 7th on the depth chart going in to camp. He needs to have a good camp to either win playing time with the Flyers, or earn a big enough return that the Flyers would be willing to trade him instead of keeping him for depth. Otherwise he's looking at a lot of press box time this year. As a 24 year old, that's not a great spot to be in. Teams have vets and they have youngsters they want to give playing time to. Not early prime-aged guys that can barely crack a lineup.

Patrick needs to start producing like a top 5 pick. He's in a contract year and at risk of falling down the depth chart. If he doesn't have a good season, do the Flyers look at him as a future bottom 6 player now? Possibly a winger if they think Frost is a more productive center? If that's the case, his contract is going to look a lot different than if they think he's challenging Hayes for the 2C position and looking to be the long term 1-2 punch with Couturier.
I agree with all of this except i think Hagg can get better if he gets the playing time.

Hayes will take some pressure off of Patrick but he better start pushing for 2nd line soon...
If Patrick plays well enough to be the second line center we will have a third line center making 7 million for the next 7 years.

Well I'd rather they turn him into a Ok specialist if Patrick becomes a solid second line center. Laughton, Hayes, Gee on the ok?

Id love to pay to play if that was a move to put us over the top and turn us into one of the elite teams in the league but trading the 41st player in the draft and a third round pick next year for a 32 year old who was minus 14 last year is not the move that we should be making especially when its stunting the growth of two of our own young defensemen.
If the young guys earn it Braun will get bumped down the depth chart so I wouldn't worry. In the meantime he is a decent PK which was needed. This gives them a better shot for playoffs which helps all of the young guys gain experience. Worth the picks iMO.

I'd love to have that problem as we win a few cups haha! We need Patrick to turn the corner...

This is assuming they are making the playoffs.

Our salary cap cant take a hit of a 7 million dollar third line center as Paticks contract is up next season so if we do win it will only be the one cup.

I think they'll be OK. They've got 7-8M coming off next season with Myers/Patrick/Lindblom to sign as what I would call key RFAs. Myers is looking at 3rd pair minutes and Patrick is looking at 3C minutes. Even if we're happy with their progression this year, they won't have enough ice time or a track record of success, to warrant major contracts. If they do, it's because they had amazing seasons, not just good ones. And at that point, you live with some salary dump trades to fit it under.

Beyond next year, there's too many things that could happen to be too concerned. Is the CBA renegotiated? Does that come with more compliance buyouts? Who gets taken in the expansion draft? If the Flyers need to clear cap space at that time, they could expose Voracek and JvR, I highly doubt Seattle would pass on both of those guys.

My post you responded to was in my response to a scenario where Patrick evolves into a 2nd line center this season. In your post you have Patrick down as a third liner.
