Just watched the end of a wild affair between Carolina and Toronto. Both teams blew multiple goal leads and both teams scored 3 goals in a minute or less before Toronto broke it open late to win 8-6 with an empty netter.

This result opens the door for us tonight to pass the Canes in the standings heading into the Christmas break with a home win over the Rangers.

Great win tonight vs the Rags. I believe we just passed Carolina in the standings. Have a nice and safe holiday boys. I'm heading to Philly for a few days tomorrow to see family.

Yep it was a grind but showed the rags who's boss now. Just as long as they stay in range they can win. Love what I'm seeing!

Happy Holidays Everyone! :suds:

Anyone notice Carter Hart is now 4th in the league with a 2.27 GAA. His save % is up to .916. The kid is on fire!

Both stats would be just a bit better if Coots and Giroux didn't just stand and watch as Hart tried to fend off 4 rangers on that shortie all by himself...

BUT... that was the only real breakdown I saw all night... a very disciplined game and great win

Idk who was calling this game on NBCSN, but I thought it was a pretty awful experience. They kept saying the Rangers (7 points behind us) were "neck and neck" with us in the standings...Lol They were calling offsides when it was actually a penalty and so on. To me, they had their "D" crew working this one and it was not pleasant.

The refs were calling everything in this game, which was also pretty annoying. That's one of the weakest two-man advantage calls in the 1st that you will ever see, but we overcame it.

It ended up being a very tight game where both goalies looked unbeatable. Only late in the 3rd were we extremely opportunistic to score a few extra goals and pile on. I'm sure this annoys the shit out of Ranger fans, which we will certainly take to the bank.

Now 9 points and 4 spots ahead of NYR, is that still considered neck and neck!? Lol

Nice to see Kevin Hayes get two pretty goals against his former team and really stick it to them in the process. You know he's feeling sky high after that clutch performance late.

Also great to see Aube-Kubel deliver a snipe against Lundqvist for his first Nhl goal. That's something he'll never forget.

Isles and Canes go down last night in regulation. It opens the door for us tonight to at least temporarily tie for 2nd place in the division with a win and a Shitsburgh loss.

Also, congrats to Penn State with the 53-39 win over Memphis in the Cotton Bowl. PSU probably could've easily set records for points scored and rushing yards, but made a few bad throws and also milked the clock late. Also, how do you fail on a 4th and 1 when you're rushing for 400 yards in the game!? Lol

Dear God, one of the sleepiest efforts of the entire season. That's one where you just throw out the tape and move on immediately. Have to rebound tonight.

And rebound they did. Thought they played pretty well against the Ducks, Gibson was just a beast. Elliot played really well also after a bit of a weak one to start.

Not sure what the advanced stats would say, but outside of Elliott, thought NAK was the best Flyer on the ice last night.

Also... the broadcast made a big deal about Metro Division holding 5 of the 8 top win % so far. I tried to search on what the Metro record is against non Metro teams but failed to find my answer... Would be interesting..

We are 4th in the Metro, 5th in the Conference and 7th in the league. Metro is really tough so far.

The Metro is:

59-29-7 against the Atlantic (65.7% of available points)
31-19-6 against the Central (60.7%)
35-24-12 against the Pacific (57.7%

Total: 125-72-25 (62%)

Another interesting tid bit from the research. The Pens are 16-4-1 against the West and only 7-7-3 against the East. It's interesting that they're relatively much weaker against the East, could be a chance for them to lose more, but also that they've played so many games against the West already.

Again, look at how strong we are in overtime. At least Couturier, Konecny, Hayes and JvR all had chances to win it before Hayes finally put it away via a nice breakaway finish. The Ducks almost looked like they were playing for the shootout, and if they were, I don't blame them.

So that's 3-0 now for us in the extra frame and if you've watched them all, it should probably be more like 8-0.

The Ducks really pushed hard late in the 2nd and 3rd periods last night, but otherwise, I thought we played pretty well and battled in all zones.

Vorobyev can go back to the Ahl now. His two minor penalties could've cost us the game and he really hasn't shown us much in his brief stint here with the big club.
