Not a good game to watch for those of you who think we wasted $14+ million on a couple of free agents in the last two offseasons.

The line of JvR, Hayes and Aube-Kubel was the best all night long. JvR finally got some bounces to go his way and probably should've had an easy hat trick. Hayes pretty much single-handedly made the two plays that broke the game open in the very first frame.

Nice to see the power play cash in rather quickly a couple of times. Just keep letting guys like Provorov, Ghost and Niskanen sift it or bomb it from the point with traffic.

Provorov continues to be a monster and the defense looks good with Myers back in there too.

Our defense did lose focus some in the 3rd, but that's what happens in a 6-0 blowout. Overall, Hart was probably getting bored, perhaps even lonely in net by the time he finally got scored on. As that shot was deflected, he watched the puck go by him, but couldn't react in time to stop it.

If JvR were to somehow lead the team in goals this season, some of you will never hear the end of it...Lol

Either way, great team win top to bottom.

And JVR now leads the team in goals
And he still sucks, lol. I guess if he actually scores one with a stick instead of blind luck off his or someone else's skate he'll be magic. Would trade him in a heartbeat for 100 other players.

Actually it's good to see JVR start contributing some offense . I think AV realized if he doesn't put more talented people on a line with him he wholely unaffective. I guess bottom line is you gotta let him play his way lol. I just hope and pray that he learns a complete game before the end of the season.

That was a big two points. I thought we let Ottawa hang around for way too long via outworking us. However, they are surprisingly tough on home ice, having already beaten us, Boston, Tampa, Carolina, Columbus, NYR and Nashville.

They have Duclair and Pageau as their top two scorers with a combined 37 goals in 74 games. How sustainable is that for a couple of guys who both never topped 20 before this season!? I guess you could say the coaches are definitely getting the most out of that team with virtually zero star players.

Either way, we obviously let them off the hook several times in this game and also probably should've finished it in OT, again. You wonder who the fuck Marcus Hogberg is and how he's making some of these saves...Lol

This win combined with the Pens and Canes losing in regulation leaves us just one point back of both of them for what would be 3rd in the division and 6th in the league.

I love it. Say whatever you like about the dude, but he has 6 goals in his last 5 games and is suddenly damn near the goal scoring pace that you'd expect him to be on for an entire season at 100%. He was leading the team in chances early on and not getting any bounces, now he's getting them. This is how hockey works, folks.

The more people talk shit about him here, the more his pucks enter the opposing net, so let's keep it up...Lol

Kevin Hayes is a monster right now too with 13 points in his last 16 games. He's possessing the puck, driving the play, eating up more ice time in all situations and setting up goals left and right. He obviously opened the scoring last night as well on the power play.

Take note of where / how his goal production is coming from now. It's not from parking his lard-ass in from of the goal which is what he was doing for the first 30 games. Someone (AV) or something got into his head that unless he started hustling and actually moving around the ice he was going to play on the 4th line and get 4th line minutes. The injuries forced AV to move him around the lines, and to his credit, JvR has definitely upped his level of play. I think I even saw him play defense once. His breakaway move on the goalie was pretty smooth. Not sure that puck gets by an elite goalie, but it was nice nonetheless.

Giroux and Couturier went a combined 22-9 in faceoffs last night. They are #1 and #3 in faceoff win percentage among players who have taken 400+ this season. With these guys on the ice to begin shifts so often, it really helps us possess the puck, run set plays and get straight into our offensive game.

These faceoff wins are even more valuable in the overtime period. We're 2-0 in that frame, but probably should be more like 6-0 or better. It's been very exciting for us to watch, yet also suffocating to the enemy, they've just been extremely fortunate to get stops.

Btw, our top line was dominant against Ottawa, but never got the payoff it deserved.
