The problem with Wayne Simmonds is he isn't good anymore and whoever overpays for him is going to regret it very quickly.

Also hearing that the ask for Mark Stone is ridiculous as well - Dorion wanted Bennett and Valimaki as well as a 1st round pick. Get lost, Pierre!

Set up a pretty nice goal last night with a big hit followed by a nice pass. Having a nice bounce back year for Calgary in my opinion.
He's still young and everything but his career high points was 36 in his rookie season which was three years ago and he's not even on pace to break that. It's kinda getting to the point where he probably isn't going to project to more than a third liner on a good team here.

I know Valimaki is highly regarded there but if they could get Ottawa to come down a little on that ask and offer the next best prospect I think that's a steal for Calgary.

He's an OK player but he's not what Ottawa needs (2-3 C upside). White, Norris, Chlapik, Pageau, Tierney all are at that level or project to be at that level. It makes no sense.

If Ottawa is looking at a roster player for the Flames it needs to be Andersson. Even Valymaki is questionable because LD is one area where they have good young depth. Obviously because of his upside you would take him because he has a lot of value but still. They need RD and high end potential forwards.

Sam Bennett isn't either.

Off to tell Hamilton he's been traded to Toronto E7

FWIW it's worth I haven't noticed Hamilton in a good way much at all this year. His first couple of years in Calgary I thought we might see him be a Norris candidate. He seems to me to have weirdly stagnated or even regressed.

Maybe a change of scenery does the trick but this guy IS starting to run out of sceneries.

You know what Dougie Hamilton is? He's a taller version of Jake Gardiner.

I can't say I've watched him at all this season but his possession stats are still very enticing and I assume his GF% would be higher with an even replacement-level goalie behind him.

If the Leafs are actually moving Gardiner somehow, he'd be the perfect replacement IMO.

He's still a good player but he has some pedigree and is a RD (things the Leafs need) but because of this he'll carry a hefty price tag.

The Leafs need him AND Gardiner, IMO, if they make this trade. Sure you can walk away from Jake at the end of the year but at some point you have to just go for it.

I think Jake is the Leafs' best d-man so I'd love to keep him. He's just been in the news today so I'm assuming any move would somehow involve him either directly or otherwise.
