And then I have other moments like this Wade/Dirk discussion where I totally......

Wade was arguably one of the better defensive guards of all time.

Dirk wasn't known for his defense or his rebounding. Very lacking in rpg when it comes to a big man and his defense was non-existent.

DJ is here to stir the pot and stimulate sports convo.

Speaking of stirring the pot I wonder if it bothers Wade or Heat fans that the greatest player in franchise history is actually LeBron.:heh:

Nope. Those two titles he helped bring in are just fine. Wade's by far the most liked of the two though.

To get hurt in the 2nd to last game which wasn't needed really sucks

There's a decent chance the Heat retire Wade's number.

I'd go as far as to say James was the 3rd best Heat player of all-time.

1-Wade
2-'Zo
3-James

I go with Wade, taking Finals appearances and championships out of the equation. Sure, Dirk's over 30k points, but he's played what? 20 years? At some point you're going to get up there in points if you play long enough. Wade is arguably one of the greatest defensive SGs of all-time, and is relegated as the best shot-blocking guard of all-time. Wade's accomplishments on the defensive side is what gives Wade the edge to me.

/ends homer rant.

Edit: That's not saying Dirk's chopped liver. I actually think it's a good (and close) comparison.

I view career as overall impact in the game. Dirk is the best shooting big man of all time and it's not even close. He revolutionized the position and had one of the most iconic, unstoppable moves of all time. He's the one that sparked the movement of looking in Europe for the next big thing and helped facilitate the development of overseas players.

Basically when Dirk came into the league, no one in their right mind thought a guy with this skill set could be a focal point of a team as a big. You had to be a banger. You had to dominate the paint. And instead Dirk used an incredible skill set to set himself aside.

Wade is easily the 3rd or 4th best SG of ALL TIME. That's why I'm saying as a player Wade is better. But from a career stand point, I take into account not only accolades and accomplishment, but what you left the game in return.

That's just my view of "career".

Playing slow just tends to mean you're more vulnerable to being beaten by a vastly inferior team, which a casual fan should be able to grasp.
I remember when Bennett took the Virginia job. My perception at the time (as someone new to following the sport nationally) was it was sort of a lateral move for him.
Mike Brey is the other guy in your conference who seems all class. I heard him and Bennett together on a television preseason show a few years back and melted.
Congrats!

See, the playing slow thing gets too much attention.

They have lost like 6 games in 2 years playing an ACC schedule. Sure, the UMBC loss is there for all to see, but they really don't get beat by inferior teams often at all. Maybe like 1/20 games.

It just so happens that the 1 came at the worst possible moment last season.

The theory of more possessions keeping the game closer longer is accurate, but UVA is so damn efficient on both ends that you really need a great game to beat them. Even for a top level team.
