when they were an expansion team is irrelevant. Cavs acquired Lebron same year Heat acquired Wade. Whether they were an expansion team in 1989 or early 70s is irrelevant.

You wondered what the Cavs have done without Lebron. Seems fair to wonder what the Heat have done with no Wade. Heat needs to go back to 2000-01 to their last Wadeless appearance. Only a few years after the Cavs.

No.
Expansion teams usually struggle for a while.
Heat went through the growing pains and still were better then alot of established franchises.
Def better then the Cavs.

Heat won 3 playoff series in the 15 years before Wade got there--- and surprise surprise- they were with another star- Mourning for the most part.

The Heat- just like most NBA teams- no stars- no kind of success.

Heat made the playoffs in year 4 I think. ECF in year 9-10. Isn't it safe to not think of them as en expansion team in that time? Can that still be used as an excuse for most of their non-Wade failures?

Cavs tanked instead of becoming a mediocre capped out mess like the Heat have become- it it lead them to acquiring a ton of assets/good young players and put them in a position to steal LeBron back from the Heat when Arison got cheap.

as i have said- stars win in the NBA.

Cavs are trying to acquire one through the draft- and in the process also acquired 2 extra first rounders and 6 extra 2nd roudners

Heat are trying to get the 8th seed for a first round slaughter. Will get a mediocre draft pick, have no 2nd rounders for years to come and owe an UNPROTECTED first rounder to the Clippers.

Cavs = smarter.

So where are all of these titles to show off your team's brilliance?

Well, the Heat don't have a large sample size this century without Wade, because we've gone 1 year without him. And we barely missed out on the playoffs.

The Cavs have been an utter disfunctional mess borderline on abortion without Lebron where there's a much larger sample size. That's the difference.

before D. Wade, from 1988 until 2003, the Heat won a TOTAL of 3 playoff series in 15 years.

Great Post!
Expansion teams all usually jump right into the playoff picture!!

Another difference is that Cavs fans here seem braindead.

How many different teams won titles during those seasons?

So? Only team besides Cavs to win a title last 4 years was GS. I guess Gilbert deserves even more praise for building this roster with Lebron.

But that was topnotch deflection. Bravo.

I would argue that the Cavs without LeBron were much more succesful than the Heat without Wade.

but then again- id prefer trying to get a star like Kyrie or Zion- rather than getting the 8th seed, being capped out and smoked in the first round.

The difference is what you see now. Without Lebron the Cavs built a team Lebron wanted to return to. If the Cavs had the cap issues and talent level the current Heat has no way he comes back.

In other words, if he was a FA after the season think he would he go to Miami?

And how about build a team that Lebron would want to play for. Think he answers a call from the Heat if he were a FA this summer?

Heat made playoffs in year 4. How would his comment be anything other than deflection?

Its actually a pretty impessive accomplishment.
Most teams took much longer.
Point is, @WiggyRuss was talking playoffs going back to year 1, which is assinine.

The important thing to me right now is how many Heat fans have committed a gaffe during this intense topic?

Yet one of you tried to use being an expansion team in 1988-89 as an excuse a decade later. Cavs made it in year 6 (and won division).

We already know when the Heat will have cap space.
At that time our young pieces will be fine attractions.
This summer will be like 09.
