By far the best part of the article. Showing us how stupid Mr. Wade is.

One interesting angle to this story is this: When Wade rejected the Heat’s two-year, $41.5 million offer 15 months ago - believing the Heat owed him more - he thought he was leaving for $6.5 million more over the course over those two seasons by taking a two-year, $48 million offer from Chicago.

But Wade ended up sacrificing $8 million as part of his Bulls buyout.

So between the $39.5 million he will make from Chicago, and the $2.3 million he will get from Cleveland, Wade will make $41.8 million over last season and this season -- barely more than the $41.5 million he could have received by staying in Miami, an offer he found upsetting and unacceptable at the time.

And Wade actually lost in money in the deal, considering Florida has no state income tax and Illinois and Ohio do.

I think you, @TurnUpTheHeat and I pointed this out when Wade first went to Chicago. In the end, Miami gave him a fair deal.

As I recall, he thought he should have been given a sweet deal like Kobe Bryant - Problem is he didn't win 5 titles like Kobe did for the Lakers - still he made 23.5 million this year - Waived the payoff for leaving the team and takes 8 million less so he makes 14 or so million without even getting out of bed, just signed a deal with the Cavs for 2.5 million and will most likely be in the finals again in June.

The 5 titles is irrelevant here. If we had also won in 2011 and 2014 then I still wouldn't have given him a Kobe contract. In the end, that contract delayed the Lakers rebuilding effort; the Heat learned that lesson and are better off.

Yes, he makes his $14 million getting out of bed, but he still made less now then had he just stayed in Miami - which was the very reason he left in the first place.

I personally don't think Kobe was worth that last contract that he got, but there has been an argument that the Lakers got their money's worth in marketing his name and farewell tour. Wade just isn't a Kobe Bryant - which I was trying to say nicely and in short - there was no way in hell anyone was going to give Wade that kind of contract and keep him.

I understand. But Wade was synonymous to the Heat as Kobe was to the Lakers. It really has nothing to do with the money they bring in. It has more to do with the salary cap. The Heat would've had to give up pieces to keep Wade at the price he wanted, and I'm glad they didn't. I saw how Kobe delayed the rebuild the Lakers needed.

Money and home town anyway.

I don't think home town really had much to do with it if anything. There weren't a shit ton of teams coming at Wade with $25 mil per year. It was really Chicago and Denver, with Miami offering $20 mil per. If playing for his home town was so important, him and Lebron could've rode off to Chicago back in 2010 and won titles over there.
