He tried to escape to Phoenix as a RFA. But, the Fly, Pelicans fly matched.

Unless there's no interest anywhere else, I'm not sure why Rondo would want to play for the Lakers. After his performance in the playoffs, I'm surprised there isn't some team out there desperate for a point guard that has snatched him up.
