Based on this 'official' information, the Celtics with approx. $26.7 under the Cap, need to dump about $3M to fit Hayward for 2017-18. They need to dump some salary to fit Marc Gasol and Porzingis.

Hit the wrong number, thinking "3" guys not $3M. Should have been $10M to fit Hayward.

lol

If memory serves, he was also disparaging the Lakers ownership and talking about how the Buss family has no money at that point, because they weren't going to go over the salary cap for a team they knew wasn't going to be winning anything.

He also said that because it's his "hobby" Gilbert didn't care if he lost money and that the Lakers were the Buss family's only source of income.

The Lakers are paying their inexperienced GM $5 mil. But Gilbert is the one willing to "spend whatever it takes."

He also pointed out that Gilbert wasn't going to spend a lot of money on a roster for a team that wasn't going to be competitive. He's a hypocrite.

Now all of the radioheads around are talking as if Marcus Smart has been traded to the Knicks. Earlier today the Knicks had checked in with the Celtics about getting Smart because the word was out that he could be had. I don't know "who" on the Knicks staff has been given the reins to make a trade, but if it gets done, I'm sure we'll find out.

Anyway, that inquiry has blown up into a monster deal that no one anywhere outside the radio stations have confirmed. The last wacko was that Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Ante Zizic, James Young and the LA/6er pick and the Brooklyn pick were going to NYC for Porzingis. Personally, I think this is BS and now that the Hayward thing is over and most of the radio regulars on vacation until next week, that the fill-ins are trying to get full time jobs somewhere.

Hey DJ.................You seem pretty level headed so I'll ask you..........

Think that the Knicks are offering Melo and $30M to the Celtics for Marcus Smart????? Ideas in SportsHoopla over the past week are much better than the radio "experts".

?????????

Why the fuck would the C's want Melo? They are trying to clear space to sign Heyward.

Um..........don't think you can put forth a cash size that large to equal the salaries out. Ruins the competitive balance that the CBA designed in terms of trades. You're not going to get a 1-for-1 swap of Smart for Melo.

I'm just asking. Apparently the Knicks really want Smart and are willing to work out something. My thought was that they could get rid of Melo and the Celtics would only have to pick up $24M. I know that's $8M per but if they are moving Crowder and Bradley is gone in the Marc Gasol thing, could the Celtics turn around and move Melo for $30M cash????

I think the Knicks Celtics are working on a deal. There is just too much chatter. Probably something simple

Not sure the Celtics can afford Melo and Heyward.....under any scenario.

And really..................who gives a rat's ass about the cap?? There is no cap, there's a Luxury Tax for going over the Cap. If the owners are making a gazillion dollars a year from 80-100 home games, who gives a shit about $25M Luxury Tax??

If they are talking, it has to be something super small....doubt Melo is headed to Boston.

There's no question that the C's are trying to get Marc Gasol.
There's no question that the Knicks would like to make a deal for Smart.

But it's like DJ says, you got to be able to make the pieces fit.

You can't make a deal, just to make a deal.

The problem with all the trade scenarios is that Melo's salary is too hard to match. For either Cleveland or Houston to actually close the Warrior gap a little, they need the buyout. Dealing Love for Melo doesn't do it.

No chance Houston would be better with Melo than they would with Gordon, Ariza and Anderson. Also, not sure why the Knicks would want those pieces back.

Be a salary dump basically just to trade him. NY would have 35 mill next summer and 50 million the following offseason.

I'm sure the CBA cares. The salaries have to match up. Owners being billionaires have nothing to do with it.
