To me, the Gillaspie call signals they don't have much faith in their other MIF options. Kelby will handle the bulk of SS/2B reserve, and Gonner provides a bench bat. Mac will be able to play everyday again.

I think they saw what a day did for Duffy, so they want that in their back pocket. If they called up Lee, I guess they felt they would have been leaving 3B completely uncovered (Tomlinson filled in OK his one game, but he really is not a 3B).

Gonor is a vet who has had some success in Chicago as a PHer, so I like him in that role more than Mac. And, of course, he covers 3B for Duffy and is an extra 1B if needed.

Edwin Escobar got dfa'd by the Red Sox today. Since being traded to them in the Jake Peavy deal, he made all of two appearances with the Red Sox, both in 2014; pitched poorly in the minors in an injury riddled 2015 season but looked decent in 3 appearances with Pawtucket this year. I guess he slid too far down their depth chart to be considered with keeping on the 40 man.

I hope to Bonds that Mac gets to start immediately in LF. He has been killing it this season in SAC.

He'll be mostly immobilized for an extended period, away from the game. With his "self-control", this could be ugly.
