After reading some articles and Whiteside's comments and Riley's preference for smart, hard working players I really think Whiteside is gone. I wouldnt be surprised if they signed Horford to be honest- he would be a nice replacement for Bosh if Riley insisted on putting together a competitor for Wade's twilight years.

Whiteside on free agency: 'Really don't think it's about loyalty'

do you guys really think you can win if this is one of your 2 or 3 best players? I certainly do not.

even if Whiteside didnt have the character concerns i would not love giving any kind of traditional center a max contract in todays league.

Watching that NBA Finals- i dont see how a guy like that can play significant minutes if they cant guard the pick and roll against hte Cavs or Warriors- who you are gonna need to get through---- as well as even teams like Charlotte now who jack tons of threes and pick and roll the shit outta of you.

Well, we've had these long-winded debates about Whiteside. Sky's the limit for the kid, but I wouldn't be full of shit if I didn't see a bit of Dwight Howard in Whiteside. I still think he's ever bit of talented than TT is, if not more. But I do have concerns about how he'll act once he gets his huge pay day.

Biyombo can be your 4th best guy.....on a high level team thats gonna prob run you around 15 mill or so it seems like nowadays.

it is just crazy though. I cant wait to see how these contracts go.

REmember last year with the DeAndre Jordan business- didnt they shorten the moratorium period significantly?

does anyone remember the details of that?

Last year you couldn't sign until the 10th.
I remember talk of shortening it, but don't know it they did.

My dream scenario for the Heat.

1) Sign Wade to a 1-year max deal (pay him back for some of the money he left on the table).
2) Durant meets with the Heat and signs a 1-and-1 with the Thunder where the Heat could be serious players for a Durant/Westbrook combo.
3) Sign Biyombo.
4) Sign Deng at a cap-friendly deal.
5) Learn that Bosh is retiring so his money is freed up for the 2017 free agency which goes back to point number 2.

It goes both ways.
For parts of the series, Bogut was huge. He's not a pimple on Whitesides ass.

Whiteside did very well vs both the Cavs and Warriors.
Limited games, but why would more games change the results if neither team has the personal to stop him?

i wouldnt mind hibbert playing the mozgov role on the Cavs if he wanted to vet. min. it....

Yeah, I didn't think Hibbert was as bad as some say this past season with the Lakers. The thing with Hibbert is that he can still be a solid rim protector, but the team he's on has to be able to at least be around average at defending the perimeter.

The Lakers were abysmal at defending the perimeter, so guys were driving to the basket at will and poor ol' Roy ended up looking like a revolving door.

Totally agree with 1,2 and 5.

I'm not sold on Biyombo at peak value.
Why not Gasol for 3 years at a fair price if Whiteside leaves?

I think Deng is looking for 1 last pay day.

I think Deng is trying to get as much money as possible as well. I go with Biyombo given the age and potential he has. He's already shown off to be a decent defender and great rebounder. There's not much offense to his game - which is my only concern.

I think Gasol is in ring-chasing mode now. I see the Spurs as his likely destination as they need someone who can fill the Tim Duncan role.

The loyalty thing just means IMO, no discount.
Regardless, let's see if Riley offers the max and he leaves.
And, if he does, he has his reasons. Good for him.
He's a FA who worked his ass off to get to this point.
He should do whatever he feels is best for him.

Makes sense with Gasol ( unless we have Bosh).
He'd be perfect for Spurs.

If we lose Whiteside, then no Bosh, I'd be cool with playing Stokes vs overpaying a C who isn't getting us to the playoffs or past round 1.

The bottom of the East already got better.
This potentially could be an ugly season for us.

Our saving grace is we have our first and second round pick in a deeper draft this season.

I haven't seen this much uncertainty with the Heat since 2010. Who knows what will happen? It will be interesting.

The NBA and union agreed to make an alteration to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, shortening the moratorium this summer to July 1-6, sources said.

Teams were informed with a memo on Thursday evening, sources said.

The CBA had called for the moratorium to run from July 1-11 in 2016.

Not exactly sure. I just saw that Biyombo was 23 years old. I'm okay with the Heat going after him as he probably won't command a max like Whiteside. Given the latter's mindset on free agency, I'd rather just go after a player like Biyombo.

Like UD said with his free agency - it's not even a question if I would sign with a team that gave me a chance when no one else did. I guess not everyone is cut from the same cloth as UD.

Gonna cost you 15-18 mil for Biyombo.

Give me a traditional center anyday. Teams would have a hard time sticking them, with today's soft centers. That's why I wish Bynum stayed healthy.

traditional centers are less important than ever. The game has shifted to a pick and roll perimeter focus with almost no post play. This means that lumbering rim protectors who struggle with pick and roll defense are more liability than an asset.

Hibbert is a quality rim protector and post defender, but since very few players post these days, his disability in P and R hurts more than his skills help against the vast majority of teams.

D'andre Jordan is the prototypical center in today's NBA. He can rim protect and defend the perimeter. Guys like Tristan Thompson and Biyombo are the future of post play in this league As the game becomes more perimeter oriented. I won't go so far as to say they are more valuable than Whiteside, but I think the team who signs Biyombo is more likely to be happy with themsleves years from now than the team who signs Whiteside. Also, I know the Cavs are very happy with Thompson and his contract.
