Also Johnny Cueto and Santiago Casilla are on the Dominican Republic WBC roster.
Because the Giants haven't invited enough mediocre infielders to camp yet.In a move the doesn't move the needle much, the Giants brought back Gordon Beckham on a minor league deal. He'll make a little over $1M if he makes the big league club.
He's pretty much back because of this nugget from Alex Pavlovic:
Notes: Ex-Giants not getting much traction, not expected to return

Wasn't Affeldt on CSN all last year?
The Dodgers just signed Franklin Gutierrez today. Big whoop you say? Well, apparently, the Giants were in the mix to sign him as well. Great. The front office just cannot get enough mediocrity for spring. Can't they just stop and figure out what they've already got?
My concern is more to do with the assumption that they are still looking. The list of remaining free agent outfielders:Gutierrez was awesome against lefties last year (and throughout his career) and I'm sure they viewed him as a upgrade option over Gorkys.

Jeff Francoeur
Sam Fuld
Angel Pagan
Ryan Raburn
Nolan Reimold
He definitely handled lefties well last year but was awful against righties. However, he seems to be one of those every other good year type players. Maybe worth it but I'd still rather go forward with the guys we already have.Maybe it's more of a case that they liked him early on but thought he might sign for more money and were content to wait for his price to drop. I'm sure they're always looking to upgrade if the price is right. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they sign Raburn to a MiLB deal.
Here's a nice arm to have in AAA for emergencies - Giants To Sign David Hernandez
