Pirates linked to Justin Upton and Ben Zobrist (though the latter is a passing mention by Peter Gammons).

I think Lind and Zobrist would be a great pair for the Bucs to target. Maybe Aramis Ramirez if Zobrist is too pricey. Lind would be a nice fit at first base, but we need someone else to handle lefties if we get him, and Zobrist is a switch-hitter who's good from both sides and can play literally every position by the battery as a plus defender.

When fully healthy, we could put together some really solid lineups, and Pedro would be nowhere to be seen.

Also, Hanson is going to be learning third base. He's played there before, so maybe he'll pick it up reasonably quickly. Looks like the Pirates want to have an internal option if nothing proves to be available on the trade market.

Well adding some extra decent bats will go along ways for our Pirates. Have any of you here notice how our Pirates are having trouble scoring runs. I mean in all scenarios, runners at 3rd and 1st, nobody out. Runner at 2nd and 3rd nobody out. Runners at 2nd and 1st nobody out. I mean we always fine away to hit into double plays or some how unable to advance the runners on bases. I live here in Dallas Texas, wish we could trade with the Rangers for Moreland.

Moreland's too cheap right now with too many years of control for the Rangers to sell him I'd guess, unfortunately. A lot of the best first basemen who aren't on absurd contracts (like Votto's for example) are on the other end of the spectrum, being just so darned affordable for so long that their teams are unlikely to deal them (Freeman and Goldschmidt headline that group).

Give me Clint Barnes and Justin Upton please.

Both would be good adds, and holy cow our outfield with Upton, but I'd rather address first base than use those same resources on Upton. Polanco's at least been above replacement level and has soon upside. Pedro, not so much.

Would Pirates use or be able to use Pedro as trade bait?

I think my wishlist is a combination of two of Aramis Ramirez, Adam Lind, and Ben Zobrist.

Pedro's bat doesn't play at DH, and his glove doesn't play anywhere. He's below replacement level and has zero (at best, or likely negative) trade value.

Upton would be down right scary in that outfield with McCutchen and Marte. I would be okay with Polanco losing his spot for Upton but not Ben Revere.

As for cheap fixes I get they could take a few Braves for the bench:

Mainly Kelly Johnson, Juan Uribe or Maybin (left side or Platoon for Polanco?)

Speaking of Maybin just think of the scenario of the Tigers would have drafted McCutchen instead of him. I still cringe at that thought.

I like Maybin as outfield depth and Uribe as an alternative for Ramirez at third, too. Good calls.

Uribe I think is a complete upgrade over Rodriguez and Maybin would be a good 4th OF option. And honestly I don't think it would cost that much in prospects.

I bet they are pushing hard to get rid of AJ Pierzynski, bat wise much better than Snyder but defensively not worth it at all.

As for the discussion with Pedro Alvarez about the only hope now is he is DFA'ed due to an upgrade at the trade deadline. I don't see any team taking him on or wanting him.

Well this stinks:

If anything serious they might ask about AJ then.

I meant Stewart not Snyder. :L

I've been hearing a lot of talk about upgrading the the lineup, especially in regards to adding a right handed bat, maybe I'm misreading the situation, but I don't see any problems with the Pirates current lineup vs lefties.

The bench, first base, and IF defense are problems for sure, I don't see the need to break the prospect pool for another OF'er in Upton though. Not sure what Lind's cost would be, but he seems like an options at least.

A Maybin and Uribe combo deal makes the most sense, IMO.

Saw Cliff Pennington's name thrown out there. Seems like a good option while Mercer is out, won't cost much to acquire, and is a very good defensive shortstop. Can be an effective 25th man as well.

Jayson Stark doesn't think Adam Lind would be an upgrade at first base. I'm not sure why he would think that, since the past three years Lind has posted wRC+ of 131, 140, and so far 137, which is well in excess of Pedro's best seasons, which are clearly behind him. And literally everyone is better than Pedro defensively. Lind has been worth 2 WAR versus Pedro's below-replacement performance this year, as well.

Lind would definitely be an upgrade, but you would have to do something with Pedro, can't have two left handed, bad defense first basemen on the roster.

Not saying I would object if the Pirates traded Pedro and acquired Lind, but it's a lot of moving pieces.
