It's great to see young talent step up consistently going back to last season. Rua has only gotten stronger as the season has gone on, and has shown going back to last season that he can hit big league pitching every day. I still would like to see him take a couple walks, but he has flat out won the LF job IMO, and the competition that was designed for these purposes has been a huge success.
This is 100% right on target IMO.
I also think Smolinski has secured a backup OF spot, without question.
Unfortunately, I feel pretty sure DeShields is going to get an opportunity he doesn't deserve. He just hasn't earned it.
