While I would never wish for bad things to happen to Josh, I'm not exactly sorry that they are happening to him. The Rangers went out of their way to help him with his demons, including hiring a babysitter for him, outlawing all alcohol anywhere near the team, and having players like Kinsler and Young check in on him and even take him home when he did fall off the wagon. He repaid that kindness by quitting on the team, using excuse after excuse for his poor play, refusing to play some nights, and then leaving town the way he did with the semi-shot toward Rangers fans and that ridiculous Angels press conference. Plus his wife is one of the most money and fame-hungry bitch-on-wheels you'd ever not want to meet. She's as classless as they come.

The only ones I truly feel sorry for here are his two daughters. They didn't ask for a moody meathead booger sugar daddy or a shallow and vindictive fame-hungry mommy.

I've said all along that Hamilton was foolish to not give the Rangers a bargain in free agency. Anyone with half a brain knew that Hamilton needed the Rangers more than the Rangers needed him. His support system here was very good and the guy still had relapses. In LA, the support isn't nearly as good and I can imagine living in LA is harder to stay clean than it would be here for any prior addict. His wife wanted every dollar she could get her grubby hands on so that they could help a " hurting world", but in actuality the Hamiltons have been hurting ever since they left the team and the community. The manner in which they left was a disgrace, the press conference was a joke, and on top of all that he had the nerve to go to the team most Ranger fans hate the most. I don't sit here rooting for the guy to have problems, I just want him to play poorly for the Angels and I want them to pay every penny of that ridiculous contract. At the same time, I can't help but think " what goes around comes around".

I agree with your post. I don't know I've just always thought he was a fraud and he conveniently used religion to mask what he really is and it doesn't help that I just genuinely think both he and his wife are just plain dumb.

LOL Evan...
Angels might go after Hamels now eh? Tell me... who exactly are they going to entice PHI with to get him?

Sometimes I like Evan....sometimes I think he's a schmuck. This article = schmuck.

If the Angels want Hamels then they'll get him. They have a far bigger TV deal than Texas from what I recall and Arte Moreno just doesn't really care.

Except they dont have the prospects to compete with other teams. PHI isnt going to just unload Hamels to a team that can pay the most money....

If Anaheim is willing to take on the full salary it means they can probably send back less prospects. If Tex were to acquire him I'd imagine they'd make Philly eat up part of his remaining contract in exchange for Texas sending them more prospects. Yes I agree Anaheim's farm is depleted but I'm just speaking in general terms and I still say Arte Moreno doesn't really seem to care about money or spending too much of it.

I don't see how even Moreno does that. With Pujols and Trout on the ledger for several years to come (plus Hamilton as it stands now), LAAA isn't picking up the Hamels tab. Besides, RAJ wants prospects back more than a salary exchange. He's made that pretty clear.

They have money and have a huge TV deal. Several stories have been written that Moreno wants a bigger footprint to compete head on with the Dodgers hence the reason changing from Anaheim to LA etc. Because of that he's willing to spend whatever it takes and IF Anaheim CAN land Hamels then salary likely won't be an issue. Unless something has changed in his mind that's been his thinking for a while.

Like I said it was more in general terms than anything as I realize they have a depleted farm.

I don't think they were even close to signing one of the top free agent pitchers this offseason so I am not sure how much money they have to spend. They certainly don't have the prospects it would take to trade for Hamels even if they could afford all of Hamels salary.

Evan's premise is silly that just because the Angels would maybe not have to pay a few million of Hamilton's salary for this year that they can suddenly afford a pitcher making what Hamels is making for several years.

Agree on Evan's premise. Absolutely silly.

Plus if Hamilton doesn't receive a lifetime ban or there is not verbiage in his contract, voiding it for drug use or a positive test, then the Angels would be on the hook for Hamilton's contract and Hamels. That is after Hamilton's is likely pro-rated for whatever suspension he's about to receive this season.

The Josh Hamilton story is a fascinating one during his time as a Ranger. Very polarizing figure that is disliked/hated now but also did gargantuan things and could very well be a WS hero if the deal was closed in 2011. I think he'll always be a topic of conversation at least until he's permanently done playing the game.

I don't understand the fascination with Hamilton's demise myself. To each his own I guess.
