You are being silly. You are arguing things I never said.

not being silly out all, when did a player try and run over AJ when he was out in front of the plate?
that could have easily happened to AJ or anyone.

Cousins did want to score, but a better runner scores easily. That's my point...he's not a good baserunner, probably never was, it was unfortunate that he thought that was his only option.

I have nothing against Cousins, for trying to score, but that collision was not Posey's fault
that play happens all the time, you don't see many runners just aiming for the catcher who isn't even blocking the plate
He made a mistake, I felt bad for both of them

It was a legal play, you have to remember that Cousins only has a split second to react when he knows it's going to be a bang-bang play at home plate. If he thinks the catcher has the ball and is moving to block the plate then he has no choice but to lower his shoulder and try to separate the ball from the catcher, since the chances of him being able to slide past him is very low.

Heck even Johnny Bench said Posey had poor positioning on the play.

It was legal, no one ever argued that....I don't even think Cousins was trying to hurt Posey.
It might not be legal in the future however. I think you're going to see a situation where runners have to slide, not drop shoulders for a full on tackle. Catchers won't be able to block the plate unless they have the ball, but that's gonna be tricky.

Cousins veered away from the plate to hit Posey, instead of merely trying to actually slide into the open plate. That is THE reason Buster was hurt, he's footing is arbitrary because he wasn't setting himself to be hit out in front of the plate...why? Because most runners are trying to get to the plate. lol
I like Bench, one of my favorites...but he's wrong

Let's reverse the situation. Let's say Moreland is scrambling in to score, he knows he's not fast, he decides to veer away from the plate and tackle the Catcher. We all cheer because the run is scored, unitil we find out that Moreland cracked a collarbone when he dropped that shoulder, and the catcher wasn't hurt

It's stupid baseball for everyone, you slide, you don't tackle. A hard slide can knock the ball away too
ala Kinsler.

"has no choice" you're saying a runner instead of sliding into an open plate has "no choice" but to tackle the catcher?
This is where the debate begins and gets dangerous for everyone. It's called sliding, it's been around for years. Veering away from the plate to drop a shoulder and slam into a catcher who is out in front of the open plate, has not been a part of baseball for years.

The debate has merit, not just for the catchers but to avoid injuries for the runners...We'll see what they come up with.

"Looking at video clips of the Cousins-Posey play, you can’t blame Posey in any way for what happened, since he was in front of home plate as Cousins decided to come into him rather than slide over the plate. The basic situation is, as James said 25 years ago, one that MLB needs to clarify, and one they should have dealt with after the Pete Rose-Ray Fosse incident in 1970. By the way, James doesn’t mention that incident in the article at all."

The MLB Rulebook, Bill James, and the Buster Posey-Scott Cousins Collision | Misc. Baseball

good article on the history of the rules

Bench says in his own article
"I teach my kids to stay away from the plate when you don't have the ball so the runner actually sees home plate and his thought is, slide," said Bench, who has undergone hip replacements on both legs in the past seven years after a 17-year career that ended in 1983. "But Buster is laying in front of home plate, and it's like having a disabled car in the middle of a four-lane highway. You're just going to get smacked."

1) Buster did give Cousins the ability to see home plate, he was not obstructed
2) Buster was never laying in front of the plate, the collision happened about a foot in front of the plate

and I still love ya Johnny, I actually met him when I was very little.

The only thing in front of home plate was Posey's leg, but thats not where Cousins hit him

There was plenty of opportunity for Cousins to slide but he chose to go out of his way for the hit instead

Only thing Posey didn't do was catch the ball and apply the tag

Oh ok. I didn't realize every post had to get your approval. So it's ok to post things you care about ( like the Aggies), but not when it's about a team you don't care about? Got it. Sorry sir.
