also people are saying dodgers are the clear favorite to land grienke now.........guessing josh deal is getting close and making the way around the meetings

but also read that the Rangers were ready & willing to match or better any offer to Greinke

"The Arizona Diamondbacks have constructed a four-team deal that's currently dormant. Would net them Asdrubal Cabrera, if it's revitalized."

Hmmmm... I saw this mentioned earlier somewhere about Texas/Cabrera/etc...just cant remember where.

Just remembered. The Newberg Report this morning.
"Casey Stern (MLB Network Radio) spitballs this idea: Upton to Texas, Mike Olt and Martin Perez to Cleveland, Asdrubal Cabrera and a second-tier Rangers prospect to Arizona. "

Add the Ray in to that mix....and you have a 4 team trade with the Rangers netting Upton and Shields. haha.

I can dream!

I really like the idea of Shields in Texas. He's always pitched well here and would be a hell of a #2 to go with Darvish. Wouldn't require the financial requirement of Greinke either. No way I'd give up Profar for him though.

i could live with this but not giving up Profar

When it comes to a willingness to spend on Greinke, the Rangers are "right there" with the Dodgers, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post

Yes, but does that change in they sign Hamilton to a 4 yr deal worth upwards of 90 million? And that doesn't mean they'll match or beat any other offer. It just means they're serious players.

i wouldn't think signing Hamilton would have any effect on the Rangers and Greinke.

we read that a little different, being right there with the Dodgers to me reads that they will match or beat

90 mil??? :nono: the reported deal offered is 100 mil or more

I haven't heard anything about financials, but I figured 90 mil was the floor. 100-105 is probably more realistic.

I think if Josh gets signed, we stay in on Greinke long enough to drive his price up and possibly keep the Angels out, and then make a trade. Maybe for Shields if Tampa is willing to be moderately reasonable.

That would be the most expensive way though. Would like to get upton and grenkie. I dont know how possible that would be?

Why wouldn't it have any effect? By signing Josh they'd be committing to increasing their payroll 25m for the next four seasons. You think they'd readily be able to sign Greinke and commit $50m in anual payroll to two players alone on the team? I don't.

If they sign Josh they aren't too worried about Upton. There would be a log jam at the COF spot, unless they already have a plan to alleviate that.
